Re: Ladies And Gentlemen: Mr. Hank Marvin And His Axes!

EDITED: That "Baldwin" guitar is shown on the list of the OP...... Sorry for the mistake...... OR....... I was just testing y'all to see if you were paying attention and would notice! I prefer the latter! Permit me a cruel chuckle!!!! hehehehehe.

I gave Apache another look, Roger - this time played with all The Shadows - and he was playing a "Baldwin" guitar (which isn't listed in the above post).  Would that have been manufactured by the Baldwin Piano Company?

Thanks

Bill

Bill, this link has the story of Burns/Baldwin Guitars and is a good read.

Re: Ladies And Gentlemen: Mr. Hank Marvin And His Axes!

Thank you my friend! That was some interesting reading and I will be visiting his blog again, because I have some questions about the Mosrite Guitar Line. I fell in love with those pretty things when I first saw them being played by The Ventures! Now they're no more, although Nokie Edwards did bring out his own line of guitars which are very similar. I was a drummer at that time (age 15) with my very first group named "The Volcanos" - we deliberately misspelled the name so it would match the same number of letters beginning with "V" and ending in "S", and we played only instrumentals. Good times, but even then I loved the Mosies because of their headstock and those three cuts.

What the heck did I know??? I was just a 15 year old. And a drummer to boot. I knew NOTHING at the time about playing a guitar; only if you had one around your neck you were the coolest guy in school, and if you were a drummer, you just sat at the back and "kept the beat". Until it was "Wipe-Out" time, of course. smile

So thanks again, Doug for that link!

How odd Bill, my first band was called The Boys and we played all instrumentals too, mainly Shadows stuff. big_smile

Re: Ladies And Gentlemen: Mr. Hank Marvin And His Axes!

The article mentions the final tour which was recorded in Cardiff which I've watched several times. Hank mentions that he uses heavy gauge strings for the older tracks eg Apache which is why he changed his guitar so much during the concert. Just thought you might like this bit of trivia. I used to love those old Burns!
