Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Glad you folks enjoyed it!

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Aerosmith   "Dream On"   (arranged & performed by Kelly Valleau)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVs7lij1zl8

Nice arrangement of "Scream On" as we used to call it. There's a tabbed version on this site, and the opening is a challenging reach in places without a capo on the second fret. Mr. Valleau's fingering arrangement is different, but the results are terrific.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

James Horner   "Braveheart"   (arranged & performed by Luca Stricagnoli)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxHGyqobsbI

Luca's beautiful rendition of the theme from the 1995 movie, is an emotional masterpiece. Hard to listen to without getting teary.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Stevie Wonder    "Superstition"    (arranged & performed by Muriel Anderson)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_9oBWKcBVo

Some of Ms. Anderson's enjoyable style and ability. When it comes to arranging music for this genre, she demonstrates a lot of imagination, and obviously enjoys what she does..

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Mike Dawes   "Boogie Shred"   (original composition)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-hJU-68pFQ

More great work from Mr. LongFingers! Some of us use (and enjoy!) instructional material from Justin Sandercoe (www.justinguitar.com) and here's an interesting video of Mike Dawes teaching this piece to Justin. Great musicians at work, and having a good time at it!

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Nice one, TF. I left him a note praising both of you and inviting him here to say hello if he wants to. I also subscribed. You really outdid yourself this time, my friend. I loved it!

Thanks, Bill ... so glad you enjoyed this.

The comraderie between these two is fun, and reminds me of when my best friend Greg and I get together to jam. He's a better guitarist, but never makes me feel that way. We both enjoy music and that's what counts.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Gnarls Barkley   "Crazy"   (arranged & performed by Don Ross)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKupfayqB00

I had the enjoyment of watching Don play this live in concert on Sept. 24. He expressed hesitancy due to some "inappropriate conduct" from the Gnarls Barkley duo, and asked us to just enjoy the music, and not take his playing it as an endorsement of their behavior. I have no idea what he was talking about!

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

TF, great playing and I loved watching those fingers stretch!

Thanks

I agree, Bill ... fun to watch and listen to. I've been working on fingerstyle technique for the past year or so, and have made so little progress it's appalling.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Jon Gomm   "Stupid Blues"   (original composition)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BVUPmRiaXQ

Some more great stuff from Jon. I still have a hard time accepting that anyone would beat the snot out of $6,000 Lowden, but Jon's music is as original and fresh as anyone's ... can't argue with the results. This tune just grooves right along ... 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 ...

Gotta roll out early in the morning, so we're a few hours early.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Awesome sound, TF I left him a note and invited him over (to Chordie - although he'd be more than welcome at "Casa Craig" as well. Oh yes. I also told him if he needed a drummer, I'm available. smile

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Spencer Elliott   "Insignificant"   (original composition)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz_0IuINCeQ

Spencer's unique guitar was custom made for him by Jedidiah Wiebe from British Columbia, Canada. (http://jedidiah.ca) Mr. Wiebe builds his guitars from 100% re-purposed wood, so there's no waiting period for the wood to open up / breathe to get the full warmth and tone. Spencer's multi-scale / fan-fret guitar enables many alternate tunings, such as the B  F#  D  F#  B  D tuning used for "Insignificant". Dropping the E-string to a C on a regular scale guitar leaves the string too slack and floppy to be of much use.

This video is a bit dramatic with the whole B&W business, but the composition and playing is dynamite.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Gotye   "Somebody That I Used to Know"   (arranged & performed by Mike Dawes)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1bzUaf_gvU

Michael Chapdelaine does an amazing version of this song, but I like Mike Dawes' a bit better. He somehow captures the attitude of the song's message in his playing. It's very cool how good musicians can do that ... without words.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

I not only listen, I also read the comments below the upload, TF. Apparently Mr. Dawes so inspired an older gentleman who had gone through multiple cancer operations, to continue with his guitar playing. He calls himself a "wannabee" guitarist.

I am not as informed as I should be regarding guitarists such as Mr. Dawes, but watching and listening it's easy to see how his playing and his style would instill such inspiration. BRAVO!

Muse   "Starlight"   (arranged & performed by Luca Stricagnoli)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJiok_3B-JA

Another great arrangement from this gifted young Italian finger-stylist. A bit early this week, due to several days in the hospital starting tomorrow. smile

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Andy McKee    "Drifting"    (original composition & performance)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfF4QLO-L_4

Some more soft music from Andy, which reminds me of sitting by a stream on a warm afternoon ... nice flow going on here.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

That is just a rediculously talented player !  WOW !

The rhythm is astounding. I can barely just strum with a beat.... that is just beautiful.
Thanks for sharing TF

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Thanks, TIG ... Andy is quite special, for sure. My wife and I were privileged to see him in concert in September, along with finger-stylist Don Ross. It was intimidating and inspiring at the same time.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Imagine Dragons   "Radioactive"   (arranged & performed by Kelly Valleau)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZAvPYj287M

One of the better pop tunes in recent years, with a clever and heartfelt arrangement by Mr. Valleau. Love the song itself, so this rendition in a favorite style makes it even better.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Eva Atmatzidou    "Planet Unplanned"   (original composition & performance)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjByOOOF7Ho

Here Eva uses a pick along with fingers, for a different take on fingerstyle. Who says there has to be rules? This tune just grooves right along ... enjoy.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Callum Graham   "The Nomad"   (original composition & performance)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w7khl1lixQ

Callum's use of Delay and Reverb in this piece adds an extra ambient flair to this piece, which is both warmly soulful and hauntingly contemplative. I could listen to this type of work a LOT ... excellent creativity and technique. Still in his mid-20's, Callum is from Toronto, Canada. When he was just 22, he was listed by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as one of their "thirty great guitarists under 30". Not much doubt about that!

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

The Beatles   "Daytripper / Lady Madonna"   (arranged & performed by Tommy Emmanuel)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPkQn5nDTZs

One of Australia's amazing native sons! Anyone who follows great guitarists knows who Tommy is, so no introduction is needed.

Tommy E is unbelievable!   Thanks for sharing

Thomas Leeb   "Out on a Limb"    (original composition & performance)

More magic from Mr. Leeb. Apparently he likes the acoustics in his hallway. Hey ... whatever works!
