Re: Elton Johns "Daniel"

It depends on how detailed you want to be. If you want simple than a slow Travis pick will work. If  you normally finger than this video is good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwHvx6lV4FA

Here is one more version showing finger picking a little different and still very good:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRxW4ydCi5Y

Re: Elton Johns "Daniel"

I'll let you know my progress and Hopefully Strummerboy Bill I can teach y"all something. I'm still far from teaching much of anything, I have a bad habit of getting bored with a song and moving on to another one; therefore I end up learning pieces of songs, NOT GOOD! I exclusively finger pick, I feel it has a more mellow and natural sound, my idol so to speak would be James Taylor, absolutely love the guy! Talk to you folks again, be cool.

Just thought of a song for you, pickina6....... Maybe you'll remember (being from Tennessee and all) or maybe it'll be new to you, but here goes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulVQsQBenvs

Sorry about the quality, but turn it up a bit and relive some of "The Summer Of Love".

All the best

Re: Elton Johns "Daniel"

Strummerboy Bill, appreciate that "Summer of Love" clip from lovin spoonful. There are a lot of good links there, a lot of music I remember hearing for the first time when I was a little guy. Unclejoesband I enjoyed watching the pickers and players just hanging out and in some cases I guess taking turns on guitar. That first fella doing the styx tune had a nice picking pattern, gonna have to watch it some more to try to figure it out! Thanks fellas. Be cool!

That's one of several get togethers that were born from this forum. And yes, it's basically a circle jam. Everyone takes turns playing. If you know the song, you jump in. If not you join when you do or wait for it to come around to you again. Always a lot of fun.

The first one, I believe, was Chordiestock. It's held every year in March in Florida and hosted by topdown. Here is a link to next years event. http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=30226.

Zurf had a couple one day get togethers in Virginia in June. If I recall correctly he had a few too many other irons in the fire this past summer and skipped this year.

Mekidsmom has started an upstate New York gathering in August that appears to have become an annual event. Here is 2016. http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=29491

And I started one in the Fall in Central Pa. in 2015 which you've seen.

There was talk of one in the West. I'm not sure if it came together or not.

Those get togethers sound like they'd be a blast. I would definitely feel like I was all thumbs if I was to make it to one of them right now, need a lot more practice! Maybe someday I can have myself good enough to participate!
