nice looking happy new harp day.
Cool!!
Let's hear it.
I will record something with it on Monday Joe, when I am in the shop all day. I am too busy until then, I'm afraid.
Roger.
Nice looking toy there Roger, but I'm sure waaay too complicated for a geezer like me..... keep in mind that I Flunked out of "Hurdy-Gurdy" School.
Have Fun with it!!
Another way to make music ... never a bad thing. Tuning a rig like that must be anguish.
An elderly aunt we used to visit (when I was a kid) had one of these. She would always haul it out and serenade us, and I recall that it was barely better than horrible. Her playing and timing were awful, and her voice sounded like a grackle.

If I ever sound like that you have my permission to shoot me

A long, long time ago I sat in during a group string session. One of the people in the group just happened to have a zither, which I could remember one of my teachers in grade school having and which our class would sing songs as she played. This zither player, and I can remember it like it was yesterday, could not only strum the chords which are finger-key selected, but he could pick specific strings, in melody, or harmony, however he felt. The sound was amazing. I don't know how he did it, but he had a couple guitar pickups which he had suspended over the open strings and then began to amplify the sound, ever so subtly. With the acoustic guitars, six and twelve, the sound was amazing. He couldn't amplify the entire board because a few of the higher strings were hidden by the instrument's housing. But those strings that he could, combined with his picking and strumming, made him sound like several musicians. For me it was a miracle to witness and experience. Not long ago I happened to think of that experience and youtubed "zither". I saw, but didn't have time to listen to, a young to middle-aged woman holding a zither on stage, playing it to - whatever. There were wires descending from that instrument also, but I doubted that it had been rigged like that musician I had the grace to enjoy jamming with, but rather was likely one that has adopted to the modern application of the electric/acoustic venue. Really nice.
Very Nice Rog - Happy NAHD!
This was the original chord layout of the instrument. I was advised by a friend, who is a very experienced player, that the circle of fifths scheme makes it much easier to play so yesterday I stripped her and re-positioned all the chord bars and keys to look like this:
I also set to and recorded something to try out the new layout. As soon as I have permission I will post it for you to hear (that is if you want to )
Roger
Sheesh. I don't even like to tune mine. Repositioning all the bars and buttons - holy moley. That takes some patience and some confidence. Amazing.
I have one of those too Roger, my father gave it to me ....... ChromAharp
Great Jan, they do have a unique sound. but they are not so easy to play these days. The post WW11 one I had that was stolen was played on one's lap. The chord bars were nearer to the tuning pegs and it could be strummed between the bridge and chord bars. Since June Carter (Johnny Cash's better half) became renown for playing one above the chord bars, they are all now seem to be designed to be played that way.
Here is the earliest recording that I know of a hit song where one was used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKywhQVWyew

WOW - um, I need to hear one of you play something on one of these things! That sounds like a LOT of work you've done to move everything around there Roger. Happy NahD!
Roger ........... thanks for that link, i had a look at it
I also looked up June Carter Cash and in the video i watched she played it both ways https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMaRgFxqvQ0 She plays it one way at the beginning and then after the interview, she plays it the other way her mother used to play it.
Amy..... don`t hold your breath waiting for me to play it lol ............i already have to many things on the go as it is!
Having said that, i have tinkered around with it
