Topic: How do you play Cadd9?

Came across this chord in the music for Sweet Child o mine, and I dont know the finger placement. Thanx!

Re: How do you play Cadd9?

A 9 is basically a 2, which in the key of C is D.  So find a D, and fret that.  Or in the case of open C at the neck, just play the D string open.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: How do you play Cadd9?

An easy way to explain it is play your usual C major, then add your pinky to the 2nd string at the 3rd fret (although it may be easier to use different finger positioning, this is the basic shape). There are 2 ways I usually play it.

X32030   OR   X32033   (  fret    position  )
  21  3              21  43  (finger positioning)

I preferr the second option.

Check out Chordie's large chord chart in the Resourses section.

Hope I've helped.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

THANX!  Wow...alittle hard for me with my tiny finger tips. I'm having problems covering 2 strings with one finger and things like that.
I'm off to check out that chord chart.

Re: How do you play Cadd9?

I think you may have mis-read my chord diagram. You don't need to cover 2 strings with 1 finger. Sorry for the confusion.

You can play a Cadd9 with two fingers.

E  0
A  3
D  0
G  0
B  1
e  0

Just open up the D string, and you've added the 9.

Nice one! I'd never thought of playing it that way before. Good to know.

Hi!
A little tip. Click the "Resources" tab here on chordie. Click "A large chord chart".
Find the chord you want and click it.
Voila you get a lot of alternative fingerings for it.

For Cadd9 there are tons of alternatives. Take a look at:

http://www.chordie.com/voicings.php?tun … hord=Cadd9

I myself mostly use the second one on the las row (032033).
