Welcome to Chordie, Daryl!
Scott is a great guy! He's funny, he knows how to rock, and he doesn't give up. Don't take singing lessons from him, but otherwise he's a good friend to have! He's clearly pointed you in the right direction. Since Scott sent you here, I'm guessing you're into electric guitar and lots of distortion? Maybe not, Scott and I are friends off of chordie and I am completely opposite in that arena. Anyhow, check out the Electric section of the forums for all kinds of information about amps and pedals and switches and stuffs. The acoustic section will have discussions about tone woods and strings. Then there's the guitars and accessories section of the forums for discussion about all of the above along with tuners and picks! Try to put your questions in the right places to get the best response from the people that have answers (ie: I don't go into the electric section much because I don't know much bout them). If you're not sure where to put it, guess! The moderators will move the thread to the correct section if it's not in the right place. As others have implied, there's NO DUMB QUESTION. Nope. There isn't. As a gal on a mostly guy forum, I had a conversation early in my time here about cutting my nails. I thought that I'd be scoffed at by the men. I was NOT. Turns out, men that play guitar care about their nails too (pickers often keep their nails long on the picking hand and discuss how to have long nails).
Anyhow, Chordie is like the extended family you wish you had around home. There's Uncle Dirty Ed (who's not dirty at all) and Cousin Roger (who's old enough to be grandpa but often acts like that younger cousin), and there's TIGLJK always offering sage advice to help get you through life (he IS a teacher in RL after all), and of course many many others here - some have already said HI, and more will no doubt. You'll come to appreciate this crew should you visit often. As I said, no dumb questions. Ask away, and please do know that no one knows everything! Often times, you'll find you may have an answer that someone else has asked. Please, feel free to share what you know! I'd say most of the community here is like yourself, self-taught. There are some that have had lessons as well. You're in good hands. POST AWAY! (please read the stickies at the top of each section to get a feel for some of the rules here and what some of the sections are about).
Did I mention I'm generally long-winded? Yep... always chatty. Ok, mom's gonna shut it now!
