Topic: Electric guitar plug-in tuner for an electric

Can any of you out in Chordieland give me some ideas on an inexpensive, but not cheap, pedal tuner I can use for my Les Paul into a Marshall AS100D amp. It gives me fits getting it into tune, the strings are so sensitive. Don't want to spend as much as 80-100 dollars, but would like to find something around 30-50. There are a lot of them to choose from, but I've been away from equipment for so long that I don't know the good equipment from the bad, and I'm sure they're both out there in force. Appreciate the help. Got some points racked up at Musician's Friend and will likely use some of them for that specific item. Thanks again!

I use a snark for acoustic shows.  I find they get unreliable on electrics when there's tons of stage noise.  I tune mid song and they just go crazy.

I used the Boss chromatic tuner for years but just switched to this Korg.  Way easier to read and faster to respond IMO.  I also prefer them in strobe tuner mode.

Also if you have trouble keeping it in tune you might consider Sperzels or a quick look from a good guitar tech.  smile

I've got an Apex AT1 Chromatic Tuner, which has a 1/4" input <-> output, and will fit in your pocket. Sells for about $20 most places, and works very well. If you're considering locking tuners, I put Grover 106's on my Les Paul last year to combat tuning issues related to the tremolo I installed. They work fantastic, and took less than 1/2-hour to swap them.

Re: Electric guitar plug-in tuner for an electric

i have a tuner named "qwick tuner" that i find good and has in and out plugs, but i wouldn't advise it for stage work. i prefer to use a pedal (they all seem to come with built in tuners these days) which is a boss ME 50. i have a digitech vocalist 2 which also has a tuner and i use this one on stage. i recently bought a clip on tuner which cost just £5 including postage which i use mainly for my acoustics but also works fine for tuning after string changes on my telecaster and bass guitar.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

You people are wonderful. Lots of suggestions and will look into what you've all advised. Gonna be fun shopping again, especially with points instead of dollars!!!!

Re: Electric guitar plug-in tuner for an electric

the other nice feature of a tuner stomp box, you can use it as a cut out.  I have a buddy who uses one nightly like that. when he needs a quick total cut, he hits it and then pops it back on.

Hey Kevin ...

I was just scanning through the Guitar Fetish website, because there must be something I can't live without. I happened upon this $45 pedal tuner, which looks to fit the spec and price range you requested:

Now that I've posted this, I'll go back to my window shopping! big_smile
