Welcome!
I do not play UKE, but Kiki Jan does - and  a bunch of others.

You will find lots of great people here - and loads of constructive help for those of us who are  trying to play.

Glad you have joined the Chordie family!!

Hi Zurf--thank you so very much for your kind reply AND taking the time to listen!  Let me know if I've missed where to find your work to check out--I'm always interested in learning to grow and improve--even if it's not directly related to ukulele.  I feel like I can learn from almost any music.

Someone called me a UkeleleBaby!!  hahaaha, I loved it--that's me--a brand, spankin' new UkeBaby however, having very little music background--I'm wanting to learn in every area. smile

My work isn't "out there."  I was just learning to record when my pc crashed. The best place to hear my work is my front yard on a pleasant summer evening.

Hi Mr. BaldisBeautiful! smile smile

Thank you for your kindness!! I feel like I'm missing some opportunities to check out everyone's work on here.  Is there a central location where people automatically post their latest and greatest works... or is it more that you know all of this on a personal basis??  smile

Yup. you can post lyrics (we call 'em "poems" without music in Poetry), Poems with music (scores or chords) in Songwriting, and your recordings/links to vids (for comments or "bragging rights") in My Local Band & Me.  Wander around a bit and you will become familiar with the general contents of all the sections, but if you should misplace one.... we are awfully forgiving and the Moderator for the section will likely move it to the more appropriate section and let you know why.

The only thing that we are particularly picky about is that songs posted in the Forums should be "original" work, and that commercial (as in selling something) links are Verboten.  We try to enforce copyrights as much as possible, and by publishing your own stuff here on Chordie, you actually give provenance to your ownership of your composition(s) should need arise to support yourself against infringement.  Videos and recordings of "covers" are OK as long as the original composer or artist is mentioned.

Hi Doug--thank you very very much for this complete explanation.  I'll be sure to check out more as I go but I greatly appreciate this "starter kit."  I'm sure had I hunted around a bit more--I could have gotten there but I appreciate the little push here!! smile

Hi Dino48,

Thank you! When I went to the music store, I was surprised to learn about the 3/4 guitars and folk acoustics(?) that, to my untrained eye, looked like ukulele. I ended up with the uke but if I stick with it and can get proficient, then I may try one of those smaller guitars. Who knows! smile

There is always Tenor Guitar, which is not too far removed from a Uke (4 strings).    smile

5 days!  That's AWESOME!  Fantastic job Kim!

I think the big issue with guitar, that I'm guessing doesn't happen as much with the UKE, is as soon as you start learning something and are DYING to practice, your fingers start KILLING!  Then there's a big back and forth between trying to find time to practice, wanting to learn as fast as possible, but being in pain. Chord shapes can be quite a bit trickier too.  I think the UKE is a GREAT idea for a starter stringed instrument.  If/When the time comes and you're ready to move to a guitar, I suggest something with nylon strings.  They're far more forgiving with the pain factor, allowing you to practice more.  wink  Of course, there's plenty to learn on the UKE I'm sure!

Keep playing, and don't give up!  smile  A lot of us have links to our music locations in our profiles.  This is my YouTube page:  https://www.youtube.com/user/mekidsmom  I've got some stuff on SoundClick as well here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_mu … ID=1094680

I haven't really added much in a while (other than New Years), but should you wish to watch the entirely LONG "Backyard Gathering" video on YT, you'll get to see some Chordie Peeps! Roger, Uncle Joe's Band, Dirty Ed, as well as the crew here (myself, Mekidsdad - my hubby, MekidsGramps - my dad he's not relly on chordie though, and mekidsKids!  ha ha).  There will be another backyard gathering in Rural Upstate NY planned for this summer.... adding a UKE to the rotation would make for some good harmony!  (hint hint... wink wink)

Art and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
What constitutes excellent music is in the ears of the listener.

I can vouch for that. Well worth the travel from the Algarve to visit Amy, Jim, Steph and my special little pal, Katie. (Even if she does think I talk funny lol)
