Re: Pa. Gathering

Well, since BILL brought up the idea of cookies recently - and it should be cool here in October, I may just make some to bring along!  wink  I'm not sure what else yet, but there'll be some goodies for sure.

Zurf... we DO enjoy sampling!  Are there any Bully Hill wines you've been dying to try and haven't gotten your hands on yet?  Being in NY and all... we do have a few places that carry almost all of their line, and in BIG BOXES too (who said boxed wine was junk? no one that ever drank Bully Hill from a box, that's who!)

Paul-  Having tooth pain is one of those things that makes you go crazy!  I sure hope they can get it figured out for you soon, and relieve the pain.  Good to hear about prices though!!!!

It's looking like there is going to be quite a mountain of food here so it's really not necessary but if you'd like to make up some wings I'm sure they'll not go to waste. We're in the 18-20 area; about half are musicians.

Really sorry to leave you all hanging, but as you may have gathered, I am not getting anywhere fast with the Great British Health system. I finally got an appointment through to see the specialist (at the end of October!), which allowed me to go back to my dentist to apply for a quicker appointment. But I'm still waiting for this to come through. So, unless I hear in the next few days (or magically feel a lot better), my trip is looking pretty unlikely. But not impossible!

Well that's unfortunate but the health comes first.

OK. Two weeks out. I'm going to send emails this week with an exact address and directions. If you don't receive one and were planning to attend, let me know in this thread. I'll get one out. Dirty Ed, are you still floating around here?

One of the locals just had his schedule changed and has to work that weekend but there are still 4 of us.

Just got back from 3 days of kayak floating in WV.  I've had a change in plans - I'll be in Pensacola Florida that weekend celebrating my youngest grand daughter's 12th birthday. Sorry I won't be able to attend the PA gathering.  I hope to do a little guitar picking with my grandson who has been taking lessons for the past year.

Paul - boooo!  Stupid healthcare system!  If magic happens and plans change, let us know. We'll save a spot for ya in the back seat with the kids!  wink

Zurf - I'll look into it!  I've found the Sweet Rose, and one of the not as sweet ones (can't think of the name) in the box before.  Not sure about the Goat though.  If I find it, I'll grab it!  If not, well then I'll just have to see what else I can find.  smile

Joe - Jim's been starting to harass me for the exact address.  LOL!  Looking forward to getting away for a weekend with no ability to do work related stuff!

The rest of ya - that's right, Amy's making her famous cookies.  I'll take a picture for you.  tongue

Bummer.  I've been looking forward to having you for a free day on Friday.  I had a trip to my favorite winery planned.  There's a lake with big fish in it that we're allowed to fish on a catch & release basis, a gazebo with terrific acoustics that I've got permission to pick guitar in when they aren't using it for tastings, and they have two reds I think you'd greatly enjoy.

Get well.  Maybe show the finger to your dentist and he fill it along with your tooth.  But you said index finger.  Most people show a different finger to dentists.

Here's my Folder with Full size pictures:  https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share … _link_copy
If you visit that link, you'll also see some awesome Fall Foliage from PA and NY - we had a five hour drive so I had lots of time to snap away!  There's a pic of the stream out back of UJB's Camp in there too.  wink

We had an AMAZING time!  We showed up late Friday night (way later than we thought due to mekidsdad working later than planned) but were welcomed with open arms, even though we weren't driving the pregnant rollerskate!  Zurf was also delayed along the way, but he had a slightly different excuse.  wink  The music was FANTASTIC and, as tends to happen at Chordie Gatherings, the good times were plenty! Naomi (Bill's lady) had plenty of interesting stories and just REAL LIFE wisdom; I didn't tire of chatting with her all weekend.  It was nice to no be the only gal around, although the other's didn't play guitar, they all sang along.  Lorraine really completed the group with her percussion, and mekidskid had a blast helping.  I'm sorry to say, I only grabbed a couple quick videos.  I was having too much fun to hold the camera all night.  I think Doug may have gotten some good ones though!  We learned that cast iron pans can crack.  Joe and Bill are proof that men can cook (OMG - the pork was to die for) - and never believe someone that says they'll only eat ONE cookie!  I joked quite a bit about the "Dead being Dead" but I think this weekend I was proven wrong... they do in fact live on... in South PA!  The three tenors - my word do they play well together! Each one compliments the other, but as it turns out they can each hold their own as well.  Pete was so soft spoken and played so quietly, but WOW.  And then Scott with his sparkly blue machine, was a mad man with his fills and solos.  While Mekidsdad had a blast playing along with them, he had a hard time "following that" - I got my orders for the next Jam as well,  I'm not allowed to sit next to Zurf anymore.  Ha Ha!  His singing is coming along great, and it was so good to see him again!  It's been too long, and we DO need to do more Skype Jams!  Met some really great people that I won't soon forget.  AGAIN - Thank you soooo much to Joe for inviting us, making room for the family, and just for a great weekend!  Mekidskid had a fantastic time.  Mekidsdad is ready to help out in the Spring if you'd like the help.  I'll bring along blondie next time too!

I left early because after going to sleep after 2:00, I woke up about 5:30 and wasn't able to get back to sleep.  When whatshername who said, "I'm silent in the morning.  Don't worry about me," got up about 7:20 (not the 5:00 they said) and cracked me up with her idea of silence, I decided to pack up. I can't believe I didn't wake Joe - at least when breaking down the cot next to his head.  Sometimes insomnia comes at inconvenient times, and other times it lets me pack up, get a shower, and get an early start on the road.  I did get to have breakfast at a kind of weird family restaurant.  The coffee was hot and good.  I sat at the counter so I'd get a lot of refills.  Instead of refills, I had one waitress keep bringing me a saucer with little cream cups on it, and then another one kept asking whether I needed the saucer with cream cups on it and when I said I didn't she'd take it away.  That must have happened about four or five times.  Though they were paying close attention to either bring me cream I didn't want, or take away the cream they'd just brought, I had to ask for refills on the coffee itself.  I never did get the to go cup I requested.  And someone should introduce the cook to a salt shaker.  Other than stinginess with coffee, flavorless potatoes and eggs, and the bizarre cream ritual, the breakfast included a large portion of some really fine perfectly cooked bacon that made it all worthwhile.  I did enjoy seeing all the Amish heading to meeting Sunday morning.  Reminded me of home.

Yeah, quite a character that one. roll She rolls in at 10:30PM blowing her horn like it's a bugle rousing the troops.

Zurf wrote:

I must have been REALLY tired! When I woke up a little after 8:00, I couldn't hardly believe I was alone in the room. I asked myself; "How in the world did Zurf get out of here without waking me up?" I was literally laying right next to him.

Zurf wrote:

The coffee was hot and good.

This really perplexed me. We bounced a couple emails back and forth and he asked me what the coffee situation was. As it turns out, I'm not a coffee drinker. There is some freeze-dried there but I learned that to a true coffee connoisseur, freeze-dried isn't really coffee. So Zurf offered to bring along his coffee pot and coffee; which he did, and then left without having any.

But he didn't just bring a coffee pot. He bought a new one as well as, I think, a 1lb bag of coffee. In essence he told me that it is illegal in Pa to have a camp without a coffee pot. So now I have one. Thank you Zurf. smile By the way, I gave the coffee to Amy to take home since I don't think it has a very long shelf life after it's opened. I'm sure they will put it to good use. I'll just buy some the next time the need arises.

I'm not sure who all was involved but when I wasn't looking a few folks cleared off the outside tables and put all the leftovers in the fridge. Thanks to all of you.

I'm glad folks enjoyed themselves. I know I did. Scott called me Sunday night just to tell me he really enjoyed the day. He loved Zurf's songs, Amy's voice and in particular, Stephanie playing guitar and singing. He asked when we were going to do it again.

I've downloaded all the video files that Doug took. A big thank you to him for doing that. I had to ask our resident computer guru (MKM) how to go about creating a separate YouTube channel. She got me straightened out so I'm going to do that later tonight and start uploading the files. Once it's done I'll post the link in this thread.

And one more big Thank You to throw out there. Jim (MKD) offered to come back in the spring and help me finish the addition on the camp.  I've had 4 different people look at it this year and tell me they would get back to me with an estimate. Not one did. That is a very generous offer that I will think about over the winter.
