Topic: Who has music in their blood?

My Granddad has been in a few bands, he's played guitar, bass, harmonica, and some backing vocals. His ltest band were the Soho Leg-Ends. There are three Alan's in that band (weird!). Also my Great Uncle is Ron Geesin anyone ever heard of him? He's weird but worth finding out about.

Re: Who has music in their blood?

Well, dear chordian, "paranormal" you have a posted a real delicate topic, very interesting.
I am, thanks to what I did for a living, more when I was studying, we had a few courses about genetics.
I am afraid that it is almost impossible to proove, but they are are already very good and far in stugying and manipulating the human genetic science.
I am sure that, and it is like I write, they find, researching so hard on the DNA chains, in particular to find genes responsable for A LOT of diseases, that probably everyone has genes to pergform certain skills. I can write about genetics for hours.
Although this is a good topic, I am afraid that you have to keep in mind the INFLUENCE of other relatives playing an instrument, which is far bigger than having music in your blood. BUT, going back on "the blood", go to AFRICA and seeing the way they move on music, and dance, we come back to the essence of your topic. Another fact is, that the artistic centre, all people have this, is located in the brain, existing in what they call 2 hemispheres. All what we do, is starting there. I just looked on the web and I found an article  called www.healingtides.net/two_minds_in_one_brain. Most dominant is the left part, responsable for the "I feel good" item, and the right hemisphere is the place to be for artistic activities.

Conclusion: you correct, but there are a lot more factors: BRAIN, INFLUENCE, and probably genetics. Try Google, and look for ARTISTIC CENTRE IN THE BRAIN.
I really hope that this answer is a good one for you

Re: Who has music in their blood?

I just asked a question! I didn't ask about what colour genes you wear! I ment in your family, if your relatives are musical. You're quite odd, don't take that badly but you missinterpreted the question by miles.
Thanks for replying anyway, don't report me!

Re: Who has music in their blood?

Firstly para,
He doesnt have to report you. I watch over every topic in y sections, bu i see nothing that you have said that should get reported. I do think you were a bit soft on the guitar doc.
I would have taken his comments as cheek.
"Conclusion: you correct, but there are a lot more factors: BRAIN, INFLUENCE, and probably genetics. Try Google, and look for ARTISTIC CENTRE IN THE BRAIN.

maybe it was an attempt at humour?

anyway,

I think I my wife has music in her blood, she can pick up somgs very quickly and correctly and is damn good at improvising, her dad is very tallented too, Guitar, banjo, mandolin, bodhran, violin, keyboard as well as a few others. His dad, also played instruments, but thats all I know about him, so on my wifes side, they have musical blood.

Re: Who has music in their blood?

Sorry if you didn't understand what I wrote. Maybe I mispelled the word and genes is not the correct word. I just tried to give you an answer on your question, and I will never give an answer if I am not sure. More, why should I do an attempt to make it sound like humour, we had even contact before. If there was a topic about jokes, I even wouldn't participate. I tried to HELP YOU, is this a crime? Every word I wrote is based on TRUE information, more it took me over an hour to do some research. The fact that you wrote, who has music in their blood, is a very interesting topic.
And I will be short: when I wrote about GOOGLE, I gave you articles where you can find, what I tought (probably wrong) to try to answer why there are families who play and sing and are so talented. I just wrote that it is probably genetic determined, but more influenced by the environment. If you grow up in a musical family, it is obvious that there is an influence, and also important is that in the human brain there is a centre, as I wrote, responsible for our artistic abilities. I hope you understand that I was absolutely not JOKING, but trying to give an answer on a very interesting topic. If I read who has music in their blood, well, maybe this was not the answer you wanted to hear, but anyway this is a reason why some families have music in their blood.

Re: Who has music in their blood?

ahhh,
I misread your reply DocPhil, appologies
that makes a bit more sense.

but jokes and joking is always good, it makes people smile ( most times) and anything that makes someone smile must be good.

Re: Who has music in their blood?

I knew it.
Those things happen, and certainly in my case writing kilometres of mails.
I really love jokes, which bring me on an idea: is it technical possible to have, like the different topics, a new ITEM: jokes in the music world. Why: there are thousands of jokes about musicians (drummers on top), but it would be very confusing to put this somewhere in the "chat corner."
I know, sometimes I go far in my enthusiasm to answer a topic, especially when the solution is sometimes more scientific, even trying to give non-scientific answers. But concerning this topic, I am convinced that genetics are involved, but also influences (if the whole family is playing an instrument) and you can find it ;: there is a centre in the brain, not only for artistic stuff, but for everything, you should read it, VERY INTERESTING. Even the fact that brain specialists know a lot, they are busy to put the puzzle together, this is just the beginning. It is a fantastic, unfortunately not for chordie, topic, very fascinating.
So, if it is not asked too much, I am sure a lot of people would like a "joke" site.
Goodnight, going to see tv.

Re: Who has music in their blood?

okay, back to the original question asked... i have no music in my blood at all. My father is a financial analyst (he checks people's math and makes money predictions) and my mom is a patent agent (she checks people's spelling/grammar, and makes sure they're not re-inventing something that's already been invented) As far as I know, no one in my family has ever really been passionate about any form of music or musical instrument. I've been playing guitar for two years, and I've recently reached the point of no return, giving up on guitar now would mean I wasted days, even weeks of my life practicing.  I honestly don't think musical talent is based on your genes... talent, like just about everything else, is based mainly on confidence.
Just another opinion...

If you spend your life judging people, how will you ever have time to love them ♥

Re: Who has music in their blood?

If you think about it it is desire and passion. Do you truly love music and to what extent are you willing to go to achieve it? Are you willing to take lessons and practice? Are you willing to forsake your friends and or a girlfriend/boy friend (if your a guy or a girl) to practice? It is the time you invest and also the effort you put forth.

In your blood No! In your heart and soul definitly YES!

Bootlegger.

Re: Who has music in their blood?

So genes is the correct word. It was maybe a bit confusing, but it's like I wrote, why are there generations of people, certain families, doing the same job?
I think that what I wrote is very close to the answer on this question.
But bootleger, talking about genes, is really complicated, you have dominant genes, or genes that if both man and wife have, are hidden, not dominant are "popping up"because they both have them.
I do agree with paranormal, but as you can read in my answer, there are more things than genetics. About in your heart and soul YES, just compare a song performed by many artists.
BUT I DON'T KNOW why some people are drowning in talent, and others not. I JUST KNOW THAT IF YOU ARE BLESSED WITH A TALENT: USE IT, I know people, musicians, so talented, but they don't use it.
Para, I hope you have a better idea concerning your topic. Anyway, you receive "genetic material" from AND your father AND your mother. We should have a topic about genetics, it is very fascinating and very strange. If you like more info, I mail it to you. BTW how old are you?
Why this question, because being "chordians" we like to share our knowledge, more specific, we love to learn from young and old.

Re: Who has music in their blood?

Good topic/question paranormal guitar. My grandpa (on my dad's side) has been and still does play guitar, harmonica, piano and accordian. My dad used to and sometimes still plays guitar. On my mom's side there's no one who plays any instrument or has any musical talent...but I always have loved music even when I was really little...I used to sing a lot and try to play my grandpa's guitar and accordian...I think I like music so much partially because of my grandpa, but mostly it's been and always will be a passion and a hobby of mine.

Well my dad was a music director in the texas/lousisana area for over 35 years and is one of the most brilliant pianists, singers, and all around musicians ive ever met. hes the one that got me started on guitar... i grew up my whole life around traditional southern gospel styled music...
ANd then on my grandma's side she had four brothers that were all prize winning bluegrass fiddlers banjo players and guitarists.
