Topic: R.I.P. Chris Squire

RATS.

R.I.P. Chris Squire, the bass-playing founding member of YES has passed away from a rare form of leukemia at the age of 67.

Here is the notice from Rolling Stone

And from The Guardian

Squire's own website, chrissquire.com , has not announced it yet, but the site is being deluged with people trying to see if there is any information - it is taking a super long time to load.

Squire was a HUGE influence on bass players world wide, and a favourite of mine, as well - hours upon hours spent listening to his Rickenbacker soaring through YES tunes like this one Long Distance Runaround (and that's him doing the realllllly high bg vocals, as well!)

This video is the isolated bass track to YES' popular song Roundabout - you should definitely take a listen to this if you haven't ever done so before: Solo Bass Track

Note to mods: If this is posted in the wrong area, please move it to the appropriate place, and I'm sorry if it's not where it should be.

We can beat them just for one day
We can be heroes just for one day

RIP Bowie

Re: R.I.P. Chris Squire

The big guy will always be remembered for his innovative approach to playing bass, and will be identified with his old blond Rickenbacker 4001 guitar. It looked small next to him, but he played it deftly with those large hands of his. He was also a pretty fair story teller. Here's his account of the first time he met Jimi Hendrix:

Re: R.I.P. Chris Squire

For anyone who has never heard Chris play, I just posted a great piece of concert footage in the Prog Rock section.

Re: R.I.P. Chris Squire

I enjoyed that interview - thanks TF. Yes has always been one of my favorites. Seen them live many times, the last time just 2 or 3 years ago at a small venue in downtown St. Pete - I was no more than 15' away from the stage.

Rule No. 1 - If it sounds good - it is good!
