Topic: Bitter To The Grave

If I died tomorrow, would you still hate my name?

Would it make a difference, who really was to blame?

Or would you think about it?

Maybe change your mind?

Since still there'd be my family, that I'd left behind.

Your children call me uncle.

Ya'll used to call me friend.

And now you say you'll hate me, untill the bitter end.

As life goes on without me, would you wonder and begin, to think about, just what if...

All of us were friends?

Lies and hate are two edged swords.

They always cut two ways.

Ain't no way to end your days...

Bitter to the grave.

Re: Bitter To The Grave

Wow ! Been there, done that and unfortunately it's still a part of my life. Very good poem.

Re: Bitter To The Grave

Thanks for the response.

I'm curious, in what context that you find it's still a part of your life.

This particular poem/unfinished song came out of a neighbor that is dealing with being insanely jealous of our relationship with another set of neighbors.

The person ranted and raved on my front porch, yard, and in the house before I finally used an epithet to describe my feelings about them, at which point they resorted to threats of violence.

This is after seven years of building a friendship with the angry person and their family.

I stay grateful for my own problems every day.

I've made probably two thirds of my lyrics into songs.

I always enjoy others musicial interpretations of my efforts.

I'd be fascinated to hear you give it a go.

I scribbled it down within about ten minutes.

What do you identify with in the song?

Re: Bitter To The Grave

Heavy stuff ...

The line "who really was to blame" is the essence of things like this. A grudge is like a porcupine ... it only hurts the person holding it.

Good poem!

Re: Bitter To The Grave

Thanks for your reply.

Grudges, resentments and jealousy all have the same pernicious effect; destroying you from the inside out.

I really like your porcupine analogy.

When I decided to begin to address my own grudges, resentments and jealousy, one of my favorite individuals suggested to me to think of it like this:

It's like giving someone free rent inside your head; they're living there, and you hate it, and they're not paying you one single penny.

It's still part of my life because of my association or lack there of with members of my own family because of words or similar sentaments expressed that have kept us apart for more than ten years. My brother has children and I don't even know their names.

Re: Bitter To The Grave

this to me is like when my first marriage ended; my ex hated me, her father wanted to kill me, and i wasn't very popular with my mam and dad either! her mother and brother were on my side...strange?

yes, good visualisation and i like the way you've expressed it, might make a good song too?

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

That is profoundly sad.

Each situation seems to be uniquely painful, in my limited experience.

Every time I've lost a friend, it's always horrible.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience.

I appreciate it.

Truly sorry for your own losses.  Thank you for your candor, I'm always honored when somene shares a part of their life experience with me.

Oddly enough, both the neighbors mother (also my neighbor), and my next door neighbor (that the angry person calls their other momma) have all expressed their support for myself and my family.

Thank you for the compliments.  You're quite a wordsmith yourself.  And you really do come off as a moderate moderator generally speaking, which I really appreciate.

It is a song.  It still needs a bit of work, perhaps a bridge, and another verse or two.

Re: Bitter To The Grave

I really like your writing and relate all too well about the grit and hard times life throws at us.  I strum this song muckin around in E, have you ever been able to write anything else to it like one more verse kinda thing to fil it out some?  perhaps that's what some runs are for, melodies in between lines.  awesome piece!!

Re: Bitter To The Grave

Thank you punkrawker.  I haven't taken time yet to add verses or a bridge.

I really appreciate the rawness of your work.  Perhaps you would give it a go, while mucking around in E.

I'd love to collaborate on this one if you're interested.

Thanks again for responding.

Re: Bitter To The Grave

Not sure if I saw this one before, so thanks to Punkrawker for bringing it back up!  smile

I've been watching family members "fight" for years... I finally intervened and said... enough is enough! We're all aging, everyday.  Someone doesn't have to be right and the other wrong.  If that's what you need, then move on.  If you want a relationship, then let it go, meet the person the other has become, and stop living in the past.

Well written!

Re: Bitter To The Grave

I am not sure how to sing this, i can hear it in my head among all the other voices, i mean songs.  normally i sing with volume and gravel but still clear when i sing/say the words and when i sing clean i cant get it to sound how i hear it.  i picked away a run for it, nothing flashy or long but short and sweet but ties in nicely with the E-B-A progression ive strummed together, going over my own work lying around trying to add to it to give it more run time.  sometimes songs are just meant to be short because they already said their piece.  Give me a few more days and I will type up what I have for you Unh Huh.
