Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

Welcome too chordie, you have too go too the song and and look on the right side if it about halfway it will have an area where you can simply press add to songbook. We do not charge anything for songs, and are only a search engine so we get the tunes the way they were done on other sites.

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

The songs I selected went to chordie MYsongbook....how do I get them to appear in Songbook?

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

I have tried copy paste and a whole bunch of other options, the online information doesn't work....The software doesn't want to import files. I created txt files and it won't accept them....sure would like to know how people are using this software....After wasting an entire day trying to get it to work, I wouldn't recommend "Songbook" to anyone.....a waste of time and money..

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

sad  I'm not all too familiar with the Songbook app or Software, but I *think* I might have used it once.  I believe it requires the actual Chopro file.  To get to this, you'll need to open the song up, then on the far right side of the webpage, above rating, you'll see "Chopro".  Click on that, then you'll need to copy the text of the song that opens up and paste it into Songbook.  Many songs may require additional formatting.  If you HATE coding and formatting, you'll HATE doing this.  sad  I enjoy it, but it's too tedious when there are other options available.  For me, simple print and keep a binder of songs works well.  Sometimes though, I wish I had the files on my Tablet, in that case, there are some apps available that work quite well (not with Choride, but they work).

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

Once you have imported songs into your songbook and you click on 'My songbook' you will see a page similar to mine shown below. As you can see I do not use the default My Songbook but haver renamed one as Roger's Songbook with 31 songs and another as Temp with 64 songs for my work in progress songs.

I can then click on any song I have in there, edit, correct, transpose and save to print out or use from my laptop as I wish. Copy and paste are not needed within Chordie.

I have a feeling that you are trying to do, or expecting Chordie to do, something different.

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

Hi John, and yeah what Amy said above..... I assume that you are using the linkesoft application, and I have absolutely no idea what they intended with that one (and no help on the homepage either???).

The good news is (on the other hand) your "My Songbook" on Chordie is available anywhere you go that has WiFi access on whatever device you happen to have.

The other way is to access the music here on Chordie and choose "print to file" in your printer options and save the tune as PDF.  Those you can then put all in one folder in your "my documents or my music" directory, available to use even if there is no internet access.  OR.... like some of us, print a hard copy and stick it in a binder (my preference and it needs no electrons & fits better on a music stand!).

I see that Amy has probably answered your query better than I. You did not say you were trying to export to an external software programme called Songbook and , as I have never heard of it, I did not know smile

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

I'm new to this site but have already started a Songbook. My problem is for some reason, the add song option no longer is available. I had it on my cell phone and my tablet but now its nowhere to be found.

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

If I logout and go to the bottom of the page where the songbook option is it will say to login to add a song. When I login that option disappears.

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

Hi Redbyrd!  You can't really add a song from just anywhere to your Chordie Songbook, you can only add songs that you find on Chordie.  Basically, it's just a way to kind of bookmark your favorites that you find here.  So, first you'll need to find a song you want to "add" within Chordie, then with that song open you will see the "add to my songbook" option on the page.

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

I know I need to be on a songs page to add it to my Songbook but like I said when I'm logged in that opinion isn't showing on the songs page. I've looked at several different songs pages on chordie and they all do the same thing. If I log out and view a song the option is there but it says to add a song please log in. When I log in and return to the songs page that option isn't anywhere on the songs page.

You should be seeing something like this with the 'ADD' to Songbook shown.

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

My view isn't quite like that. When I'm viewing a songs page and I'm not logged in at the bottom of the page under the diagram of the chords there are three section.  Transpose chords with a dropdown arrow, Tuning with a dropdown arrow as well,  and Songbook with instructions to login to add songs to my songbook. When I login, the Songbook section is no longer there.

Can't figure it out. Worked fine on my cellphone when I first started. Logged in on my computer and I have all the options. Its a different view on my computer. Its like the one you have. Guess I'll have to create my Songbook from there. Great site! I played years ago and kinda put it down but getting started again and having all this info is really great.

I was just about to ask what you're using!  smile  On the cell, is it an Android, iPhone, or Windows Based Phone?  What browser were you using on the cell?  The admin is looking into optimizing the site for mobile devices, but at this time it is only OPTIMIZED for computers.  Of course, you can still use a mobile device, but everything might not function properly.  We'd love a bit of feedback to understand what's being seen on different devices and those devices browsers.  I personally find from my Android Phone using the Firefox for Android browser that I get the best results (better of course on the computer though!)

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

Hi, I am new to chordie, I have songbook on my pad and after I import a song and push the backbutton, it Always exits the site and brings me back to the program. Does anyone know how to just return to the previous page? (Instead of exiting back to songbook) to look for other songs to import, etc.?
Also if I create a songbook on Chordie, can I import all of the songs at once? Thanks

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

Hi, I am having a similar problem, I have created a songbook on chordie and now want to sync it with the songbook app, does anyone know how to do this? Is dropbox involved? Do I need dropbox? Thanks, bj

Hi BJ, From what I gather from the Linksoft website, it can import songs in Chopro format from "any file sharing" depository..... I'm guessing that you would have to basically copy your Chordie songbook into such a depository in order to "grab" them into the Songbook App.

Chordie doesn't "have" any files to "share", so dragging songs directly from here to there poses a problem.  We are just an indexing site (with all the music strewn across the web) that makes it easier to find the music and display it in a consistant format..... kind of a specialized search engine.  An answer to an easy way to accomplish your goal is most likely to be found in the help and support pages/portal of the Application Home-page.

Sorry I can't do you more good than that;
Doug

My directions from above, quoted here, might help some of you that have been back recently trying to put songs from Chordie into the Songbook program.  smile  I don't think you can import an entire "Chordie Songbook" into the Songbook app.  I think you have to do it one song at a time.  But... I'm not sure.  I haven't used that software in forever.  I tend to just print songs and keep a paper filled binder (or save screenshots to view on the tablet - or have wifi available and look them up on the fly).  Good luck!  I suggest checking with the program creator if you're still having issues.  Doug's info will be helpful.  Chordie is more of a search engine.  The songs are not hosted here, just displayed here (my best analogy is that Chordie is much like searching Google images.  You can see the pictures through Google images, but Google doesn't have them hosted on their servers.  They just show you what's been indexed)

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

You can use Linkesoft "Songbook Chordpro" program or app to import a song directly from the Chordie website.

I would guess that this is the way that most people import new songs into "Songbook Chordpro".

The Linkesoft video demo actually uses Chordie to show how to import a song:

http://www.tubechop.com/watch/6291728

You use "Import" on the app controls, not any instance of the word "Import" on the web page, to import the song directly into the app.  You do not need to go to the Chordie "Chopro" screen for the song to import it - the app "Import" button works from the normal song page on Chordie.

If "Import" does not appear on the "app controls" then the app has not detected any Chordpro/Chopro code to import.

You have to import one song at a time.  Linkesoft "Songbook Chordpro" does not recognise the {new_song} or {ns} directive in a file that would "split" the file into separate songs.

I wrote to Linkesoft asking it would be possible to do this in future but they do not have plans to do enable this.

After importing an individual song into Linkesoft "Songbook Chordpro" there is a back arrow on the screen that should take you back to the Internet Search function.

If anyone is having problems with this app, I would email Linkesoft.  I have had a few questions from time to time and they reply very promptly and helpfully.

https://linkesoft.com/contact.html

I wrote some "Songbook and Chordpro Tips" the other day.  These have nothing to do with Chordie but a lot of the "Linkesoft Songbook" questions in the Chordie Forum are about Songbook rather than Chordie, so they might help others passing through this way :-)

http://ukulele-allsorts.com/2015/06/21/ … dpro-tips/

There is certainly a lot of confusion when sometimes people are talking about a Songook meaning a "Chordie Songbook", others meaning "Linkesoft Songbook" (which is also called "Songbook Chordpro") and others again about both of them.  That is why I have been a bit pedantic trying to remember to say "Linkesoft Songbook" or "Songbook Chordpro".

Hope that is helpful,
Liz

Thank you Liz,

You are not active here on Chordie very often, but when you do appear it is usually with a little gem. smile

Re: Newbie, cant figure out songbook with chordie.

Hi Roger,

That's really nice and made me laugh :-)

I pop in every now and then when I have a question. Usually, someone has already asked the question and the answer is here waiting for me.  So I guess I am more of a lurker :-)

The overlap of the names of various programs and apps for saving chordpro format songs (Songbook, My Songbook, etc.) and the names of Chordie features causes so much confusion.  There even was, I have not checked if there still is, an app called "Chordie" which, of course, has nothing to do with this Chordie web site.

It strikes me that the usual need to constantly remind people that Chordie does not actually host songs adds to the confusion when people are asking how to import songs into apps.

Not shouting at anyone - just for emphasis:
The fact that Chordie does not host songs is NOT relevant when it comes to these apps and programs.

So when people answer questions about apps with the reminder that Chordie does not host songs they are, sadly, not only wasting their own time answering but are also creating further confusion.  Please anyone reading this understand that I am NOT dissing anyone who has done this. It is just the truth :-)

Some of these apps, eg. the "My Songbook" app, even include a dedicated "Chordie Search Browser" as the default way to import songs.

I have only a vague idea of how these apps and programs work in terms of detecting chordpro format files to import.

In the "My Songbook" iOS app you can edit the "search" function of the "standard non-Chordie" search engine.  I discovered that the search operators not only look for files with the extension ".pro", ".chopro", ".chordpro", ".txt" etc. but also look for files containing the Chordpro directives {t:} or {title:} and {st:} or {subtitle:} using a wildcard search between : and })

As Chordie does not host songs, when viewing a song on Chordie, the app must be following the url to where the song file is hosted and registering the characteristics of the file there.

It makes a LOT of sense that an app would include a dedicated Chordie browser as the Chordie web site is the first port of call for so many people looking for songs with chords. (I have added a dedicated "Chordie Search" to Firefox.)

Linkesoft Songbook does not include a dedicated Chordie browser, although some similar apps do.  In the iOS version of Linkesoft Songbook, the options are Google, Bing and "Other".  (I suspect that it would be possible for the user to make the "Other" option a dedicated Chordie Search Engine.)

Apologies if this suggestion should be made in another part of the forum, Roger, but while I have got your attenion here . . .

Questions and confusions about how all these apps and programs work in relation to Chordie are not going to go away but are likely to increase over time.  I would suggest that it might be helpful to corral these questions, move them out of this "About Chordie" sub-forum and invite some specialised help in dealing with them.

Suggestions:

1. Make a "Sub Forum" in the "Chordie" Section of the Forum, under "About Chordie", and call it something like, "Chordpro apps and programs" or "Chordie apps" with a subtitle, if a subtitle is an option: "eg. Songbook, On Song,  Songsheet Generator, etc.".

2. Invite program and app developers to become members of this forum and submit information about how their products interact with the Chordie web site and how users can import individual songs and Public Songbooks (or not and why not) with a link to their own "Help" pages or contact pages.

3. Make these posts "Stickies" within the "Chordie apps" subform and encourage the developers to subscribe to them, so they are alerted to new questions and can, if they choose, visit the forum to provide answers.

4. Include a "top sticky" or info stating that you invite other developers to contribute in a similar way as new products come to market.

I have corresponded with several of the developers when I have had questions and they have all replied promptly and helpfully.

All these programs and apps are similar.  However, they differ enough in functionality, in their user interfaces, terminology for operations and the labelling of "buttons" that a question about one app that is answered with reference to another app can be misleading and cause even more confusion.

I hope that suggestion is helpful - I have contributed more in the last 24 hours than in the last 24 months and more, so you might not hear from me for a while now :-)

Best wishes,
Liz
