Topic: fyi lightbulbs!

My neighbor and I were talking and he asked me if I heard about lightbulbs not being made anymore,(meaning the incandacent type) he told me they are being phased out for the pigtail ones. I am going too go too my local walmart and stock up on lightbulbs now as I do not like the pigtail ones, they save some energy but do not light up my rooms well The federal government is doing this to us.

Re: fyi lightbulbs!

I agree. Fluorescent lights suck. I guess I'll have to make a decision when the time comes to replace some bulbs. But it's not like they are gonna be gone tomorrow. Whatever supply has already been made will still be sold. They just can't make anymore.

Re: fyi lightbulbs!

I dont know guys, personally I like the piggies.  I can now run 4 100 watt floods and only use 60 actual watts to light up my detailing area leaving me room for 3 more if I want them    Every so often I have to fire up my 400 watt halogen work light off the same outlet + run my buffers, and it does not strain my breakers.   I have not used a incandeant bulb in a long time. , most the house is converted also. if not the piggies, to LED.

LEDs if you don't like the fluorescents.

I don't know how it is where others live but I looked at my energy bill and the cost of electricity is over 1/3 higher this year compared to last year that's quite a hike

Re: fyi lightbulbs!

Actually, manufacture & import of 100 watt incandescents in the US started in 2012, then 75 watts in 2013.  60 and 40 watts are being added this year.  All part of a world-wide effort to reduce energy use that started about 8 years ago with the US, Canada and Mexico being some of the last to convert.  I don't mind the cfl lights but my wife hates them.  My only concern is the disposal of the mercury used in them.  The slow start-up can be aggravating like in most fluorescents, but as Jerome said LEDs are always an option.  My wife's stash of 100 watt bulbs is getting pretty low so she better get used to it.;)

Re: fyi lightbulbs!

We switched over our entire home to flourescents several years ago, and the change did take some getting used to. The lighting spectrum is different than incandescents, but we did see a drop in our power bill, plus we don't replace bulbs nearly as often. Neither incandescents nor flourescents give a true light spectrum, and I believe halogens are really closer than anything else. LED technology will likely be the wave of the future, but they sure haven't got the color spectrum even close to natural light, and they're still very expensive. Our town is replacing the street lights with LEDs, and they have a cold, almost spooky look to them.

Re: fyi lightbulbs!

I hate the flourescents.  Absolutely hate them.  We have been moving towards LED.  Most bulbs, both flourescent and LED, are rated for their color temperature.  Cooler temperatures are bluish, and warmer temperatures are orangish.  To me, the flourescents are green, and no matter what color temperature they are advertised to be on the box (warm, bright white, daylight, etc.), they still look green to me.

As someone that colors hair and thrives upon the natural light to make decisions and make people beautiful... I HATE fluorescent lights and LED's.  You can buy "natural light" fluorescents, but they do not really show true colors unless you're positioned in exactly the perfect spot under the light.  It sucks to have to tell people to go outside and take a mirror to actually see what their hair looks like sometimes.  On the other hand, they are cheaper to run.  sad

Re: fyi lightbulbs!

just before the globe type bulbs were stopped over here, Tesco were selling pigtails (as you call them) for 50 pence each, so we bought a shed load of them. now they sell at around £5 a pop! i like them as they are something like 9 watts a bulb giving off 50 watts equivalent. they also give a better light for taking photo's and video i found . i have seen the old style for sale but they are very expensive now £9 +

My wife Jennifer and middle daughter Tiffany are both art majors and hate trying to paint indoors using the cfl lights.  Per Jen, the LEDs are just as bad.  They both claim that most of their inspiration comes at night and now they won't have proper lighting when their Muse strikes.

I bought a $20.00 drill at wally and ordered the light and attachment wires.  This will give you something to shine on hair.
