Topic: MP3 volume prob

hi guys, i've been making recordings on my DP24, then down-loading to PC to convert into MP3 format. i used to to it by dumping onto a Philips juke box which changes to MP3 automatically. but it doesn't work on windows 7!

question is; i've down loaded an MP3 converter but by the time i get it to my lap top the volume has dropped, in other words it's a lot quieter than previous recordings, they're backing tracks for stage use so they need to be at a level as i don't need to be constantly adjusting volumes. any ideas?

Phill why not use Audacity? It is free, you can convert to wav, mp3 and many other formats, you can adjust volume overall or just in a part and much more.

Check the master levels on the DP when you bounce the tracks, and on whatever you have in between it and your MP3 converter.   Set your master for as much signal as you can get out of it without peaking.  Then bounce the track.

thanks for the advice, trouble is; i did use audacity and i put the DP24 master up as high as possible before distortion. it seems the loss occurs between audacity or reaper (i've tried them both) and the MP3  converter! which is why i asked if there is another converter that retains volume? interface between DP and PC is Scarlett 18i6 which came with Ableton DAW (cut down) same thing i'm afraid. can anyone suggest a free prog that boosts the signal?

Do you have a box or dropbox account you can load the WAV into?  I'll take a look.  Reaper uses LAME when it renders to MP3, so I'm not sure how you are rendering out of that environment.

I wouldn't put my tax returns up there, but for this kind of stuff, it's ideal.   I just put a 180MB WAV of my daughter's choral performance up on Drive because it was the only way to get it off of my phone.   big_smile

I just put it up there so I could download it onto my computer.  It is a typical 8th grade choir version of "Winter Wonderland."  I slapped a MIDI drum track and upright bass behind it just for giggles and it actually turned out OK.

At 14 years old, I expect her to be completely unimpressed.

I have a 13 month old granddaughter who just loves music of any kind! Last night I had my Alesis drum pads out and she came in and wanted to have a go. After a little encouragement she gave the pads a good thrashing. She also loves strumming my guitar and though at first she hated it loves strumming a toy uke that's lying around. I've never seen such a musical kid!
