Topic: questions about a cabenit Ibanez, model TB212

Hi, I have the cabinet mentioned above, however don't have the amp to go along with it. I inherited a Fender DeVille, then after I sold her, I found the cabinet. There are 2 12inch speakers in there! The only input is the same  you would use for a guitar. It says 8(& ohm symbol) then 200 w. My question is, what can I do with it? Guitar CENTER offered 50$, & I'd rather keep em. Any ideas on how to power them, like a received? My current amp is only 70watt. Any info is appriciated.

Use it with that cabinet. If it sounds good, you`re all set. even if you had 200 watts. Would you have it cranked that loud where all 200 of those watts would be utilized?

Maybe try  a Marshall 100avt or a Peavey ??

hi phoule77,

it wont hurt your amp to play it though bigger capacity speakers. just make sure the ohm's match between amp and cab. eg if your amp is pushing out 16 ohms then it'll overheat possibly and blow. the ohm rating is the resistance of the coil within the speaker. the amp resistance is the force the amp pushes out the signal. so if your amp is pumping out 70 watts through 4 ohms, the speaker resistance will greatly reduce the power emitted by the speakers.

if your amp is a modern one, the chances are that it's a multi-ohm and will play normally between 4 and 32 ohms adjusting automatically. just check first.

Your amp may have external speaker jack in the back.  get a speaker cable and hook those puppies up!  have you ever seen a 5 watt valve amp  drive a 4x12 cab with no problem! check this out : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoFQvVTqWtI  (btw i have this bugera amp. its great!)

I've not built a guitar but its 1st on my bucket list, I have the tools and a good workshop, and soon to be retired. If you run into a problem, I'm sure someone here can offer advice. keep us posted on your progress. To play a guitar you built with your own hands, man it just don't get any better than that.
