Topic: Miriam Makeba - Strawberries

Hi, Im wanting to learn how to play this song to impress my girl but I just cant nut it out.  Its a classic from 1960 from the late great Miriam Makeba, has a lovely gentle riff and a haunting sort of melody.

Id really appreciate any help on this!

The chords are C and B.  You can approximate the sound if you do this:

1.  Put a capo on fret 5 and pretend it's the nut.

2.  Play an open G (320003) and fingerpick strings 1, 2 and 3.  (Really all you need to do is fret the high e on fret 3.)

3.  Play a D shape on fret 5 (xx00565), and again, fingerpick strings 1-3.

Thanks but I dont think that works...

Seems to me the chords are C-Em, also I tried the riff pattern and it doesnt sound at all the same.  Thanks anyway but I think Ive mostly worked it out now.

OK.  Whatever works for you.

My ear definitely does NOT hear C-Em, but if that's what you hear, cool.

I did make one mistake.  I said the chords were C and B, but I think it should be C and Bb.  I get really close to the sound when I capo 5 and play open G and a D shape on fret 5 (which is really fret 10), playing strings 1-3 only.

Good luck!

Re: Miriam Makeba - Strawberries

Astronomikal is right, the chords are C and Bb, played at 12th and 10th frets, but the bass should play C all along, so the 2nd chord is Bb/C.
