Re: NEW NAMES and DETERMINATIONS

I'm a Christian, and I'll state categorically that "Christian music" (or any form of "Christian only" entertainment) downright sucks.  It's horrible.  The only exceptions are southern gospel and bluegrass spirituals.

So if you don't look like this

or this

God has asked me to inform you that you should just keep on with the heathen music and play some Skynard, man.

Well put. I always wondered what the difference is between a christian E chord and a secular E chord.

The secular E chord is actually a variation. If you look it up in a chord chart is will show E/vil. Like an Esus or E/B chord.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. There's no meaning behind it. I was just going for a laugh. Sort of on the heels of Jerome and Beamer.

Well said Jerome!!!

Keep Rockin!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: NEW NAMES and DETERMINATIONS

I agree with Jerome. I'm a Christian too but most modern music that goes under the label of "Christian' really is awful. (as with everything there are exceptions).. Most of it is "unspiritual" and is an attempt to dumb down rock/pop, give it some Christian lyrcs, so it will have mass appeal with the younger crowd in particular. It's commercialisation of the worst kind.

Re: NEW NAMES and DETERMINATIONS

There are a few rock bands out there that may be considered "Christian" but only as far as the core beliefs go. Chevelle, as mentioned prior, is one of them. I was always under the impression that Kansas was a "Christian" band. Creed is probably the more well-known recent band that espoused "Christian" values...until Scott Stapp backslid.

My firefighter is a cousin of the lead singer of Stryper. When he was 15 (1986 or 87) he went with Stryper as they toured Japan. He told me that, at the time, Stryper acted very un-Christian while on tour.

I knew the former lead guitarist of Stryper.  He left the band over their behavior even though financially it cost him dearly to do so.

Re: NEW NAMES and DETERMINATIONS

I don't consider "Christians in a band" to necessarily make for a "Christian band."  Creed is a good example of this.  While they touch on Christian themes, they aren't evangelical like Stryper.  If you go to a Stryper show, you're going to get preached at, because it is ultimately an evangelical event.   If you go to a Creed show,  you're going to see Creed.

I feel the same way about every Tori Amosesque "Why God?!  Why?!" song.  smile

Was that when they toured with Motley Crue?  ON that toure they really got into being rock stars.  I cant say I would blame them,,, its a one time shot at being a star, better live it!  just dont hide it.

As a matter of fact the whole direction issue was what broke up Kansas.  a few wanted to go the church rt, and the others the Arena Rock Rt.  My vote would have been with Arena Rock.  The clash has a similar dissent.  Arena rock (combat rock album) vs more of the reggae punk.  Small audiance V/s Big sales.

Re: NEW NAMES and DETERMINATIONS

I don't know when it was, but he was an amazing guitarist.  There was no key in which he couldn't play or transpose to on the spur of the moment.  He could maintain electric lead licks, bass line, and rhythm simultaneously.  He had arena rock band hair if that helps.  But, he was a gentle hearted and humble individual and the rock star scene hurt him in ways few of us will ever understand.

Stryper is still out there and i think they have gone back to their roots.  Maybe he can rekendel his relationship with them.  Saw a live show from Japan from 2011 or may have been more recent.

Re: NEW NAMES and DETERMINATIONS

I don't know anything about that.  That group broke up a long time ago, so they didn't need a sound engineer any more.  I've lost touch.  Much like the Grinch, my guess is that he'd not touch the opportunity with a 39 1/2 foot pole.
