Super Good Job, bgd!! Loved your singing and playing. Could you do be a big favor and tell me the chords you were playing? I'm trying to expand my ability to play barre chords, and I don't know very many beyond those on the first 3 or 4 frets. Thanks!!
em7 am7 cmaj7 b7.
Take every song you know in open position and learn it with all barre chords.
Very interesting choice of song to cover.:P
Good job tho.

OK, but why? What's the benefit or advantage to playing things as barre chords?
More musical options => better player.
Plus if you like percussive left hand muting (as I do) it's much easier with barre chords.
Nice job BGD.. and cool to put a face with the name..
Also agree with you about barre chords... learned them years ago but use them every time I play.. very handy.
Deb
I like the sound of that, BGD. I agrre with barre chords, but don't take the time to learn them. My bad.
Thanks y'all.
Bgd nice tune!,you sound a little like a speedee Reggie Watts. I use most of those chords when I play blues tunes, like an unpluged version of Crossroads and Malted Milk etc.

If you know 3 you can use them all over the neck not just the first 3 frets example :
your standard E Bar chord shape for F = 133211, by moving it fret for fret down the neck you are playing that chord, F F# G G# A and so on, or for an easy way just play the first and 3rd fingers on E and A string. this will work up and down the neck and are called Root 5th Bar chords, they work best on strings 4,5,and6
I found this FREE PDF down load of Barre chords http://www.guitar-skill-builder.com/Bar … Chart.html
Ok and to answer your question of why? Well once you migrate out of folk,, and even w/ in it, and with your Beatles, conservation of movement and, quite frankly,, the other name for them is POWER CHORDS. You can get much more thump out of them, palm muting is easier, and shifting between chords is quicker. EX going from C D E isn’t that hard open but lacks a certain growl. If you play them as a 2 or 3 finger power chord, you’re just sliding the fingers right up the neck in a smooth progression and able to swap back and forth quickly. Best example I can think of that is not a metal song (as it was written LOLLOL ) would be most of the very popular stuff by THE KINKS. All day and all night and You really got me ( which have been covered by Van Halen and heavier groups) here listen and watch how they are played by everyones favorite Justin guitar. So here ya are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5V4uO2H5Sc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=en … rBBf7OogtU
and the VH version of you really got me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fAd7MoT9c8

well said!
Thanks, Beamer. I really got a lot of great information from your answer! I see guitar players using these barre chords all the time, and I never understood why. I have been practicing "Creep" by Radiohead and it's defintely easier to play using power chords.

Once again your so welcome! Iit makes me feel good to know that while I have a huge black hole of theory knowledge,, the knowledge that I do know, is solid and has been of help to you.
Do you play an electric or just the acoustic? Power chords truely "come alive" on an electric.
I think, that is a great piece of advice. If you already know a song in the first position, you don't have to relearn it, but it's a great way of prcticing those bar chords. Without bar chords, your guitar neck is too limmited.
Not so much your major chords, they are easy enough to play but the minor, major 7ths and minor 7ths. Also The patern of a chord progression can be used in any key.
em7 am7 cmaj7 b7?
Are you tuned down to Eb ?

If you are using a chop rhythm, barre chords make it easier to mute all strings at the same time.

Christopaul yes I always tune down unless I'm playing jazz.
Good work.
Now and then, you'll come across a video, which makes youu want to lear, that song. This is deffinatley one of those videos. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks man!
I like your Beast of Burden, video too. I've not stopped singing it for three days now.
nice play
Is my best to best activity playing to Acoustic guitar. And always cover with blackstreet and no diggity cover. It saves my guitar from dust. I like that..
Why is it listed on the album as No Diggity then? Were they trying to be clever?
