Just back. Very small turnout, but I had a good time playing with my old friend Garuchi. Fished some and while I didn't catch many fish, I caught some good sized ones. No trophies, though I did catch my largest smallmouth on a fly rod (to date). Picked up a few picking tricks and a couple exercises to hopefully improve my playing.
The weather was absolutely perfect. We ought to have had a terrible storm Saturday night. The temperature dropped quickly, my guitar kept going out of tune quickly (sure sign of a rapid drop in barometric pressure), and the wind kicked up. My friend Roger (same Roger who shared a margarita with a raccoon at the July River Jam) checked the RADAR images on his smart phone and it looked like it was going to be bad, bad, bad. But somehow the crazy deep hollows and gorges and the steep bluffs rising out of them directed the foul weather around us. Where we were, just a few drops of rain during the night and a gorgeous clear blue sky by morning.
I got a new idea for a song hook. Not sure how to use it, but in a discussion of what we all appreciated about camping, the concept that it "embraces the opportunity for wierdness" arose. There's a song in that idea. It will be added to my hook book and see what comes of it.
