Topic: Song search

You have the ability to search by artist, why not a keyword song search?  Sometimes I want to find songs on a particular topic or with particular words in the title or lyrics.

Re: Song search

I've never thought about that on Chordie, but I do know it works in Google and other search engines.

Re: Song search

How do you search on Google for the chords to a song with specific words?  I gave that a try last night and didn't get anything useful.

Re: Song search

OK, I just did a little experiment on searching.  If you put the one line lyric down and then put song chords it seems to come up with the right song for me and the chords.  I think the lyric has to be fairly specific and the more well known the part of the lyric, the better chance of coming up with the right song.  Anyway, try putting the lyric you know followed by "song chords".  It may only work sometimes, but it worked for me on two songs I tried.

Re: Song search

I picked out an obscure line from a song and searched for "I'm going to need two pair of shoes song chords" and it came up with Walking to New orleans by Fats Domino.  It works almost every time I tried like that.

Re: Song search

Pete: I tried that line and it worked.  However, what I was looking for were songs about "chili" or "chili beans" - my ukulele group is performing at a chili cook-off.  I don't have a line from a song that I am trying to identify.  Ted

Re: Song search

I see.  Well the only way I know is to search for "songs about chili"  and then when it identifies songs, then search for the song with the chords.  When I am searching for something, I always try different wording for the searches.  Different wording yields different results, but I am sure you have tried that.

Re: Song search

I am sesrching for a song by Vince Gill. I would like to have the words to the song. Help the Children is the name of it. Have not been able to find it on any site as of yet. Could you help me out? Do you have a chat where I could post.
Thanks, Sharon (New to chordie.)

Re: Song search

Sharonli - welcome to Chordie!  The best place to post a request for chords to a song is in the "song requests" section found here:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewforum.php?id=11  click on "Post New Topic" and put the song title in the subject and then any info you have on the song in the message.  If you've already searched chordie and the internet and are looking for someone to write out the chords for you, a link to the song playing on youtube or some such is also helpful.  Please note, copyright lyrics cannot be posted in the forum so you'll only get a brief synopsis of the song/chords... so if you need it all written out for you make sure you mention that you'd like it emailed if possible (and make sure your email address in your profile is good).  smile

Re: Song search

there is a way to search a specific site for a word on google. type in this for example: chili site:chordie.com . This search brought up mostly red hot chili peppers songs, but i only looked at 2 pages. give it a try.
