The Point of Reverb

As someone that started life singing, I can throughly appreciate the acoustics in a room.  There is NOTHING quite like it.  Give me a big ole empty room and I will stay in it for hours, I've done it.  In high school my favorite thing to do was stay after school and sneak into the lecture hall and just sing.  A lot of public bathrooms also have awesome acoustics.  I fondly recall a friend and myself singing in one of the lesser used bathrooms in highschool while we were getting primped for a musical as parents were arriving to watch said musical (we just had chorus parts).  We stepped out of the bathroom and there was a small gathering at the doorway just listening.  My mother came with me to listen to me sing a NYSSMA solo (voice competition -singing in front of judges for the purpose of being judged, as well as trying out for All County and eventually All State Choir positions) and she was blown away by the acoustics in the high school classroom I sang in.  Mom cried, because she'd never heard me sing in such an acoustic setting before.  When I switched bedrooms with my kids last year, I completely emptied out ONE of the rooms and brought the kids into the empty room and showed them this beautiful phenomenom of music... they got bored with me after a while and left me alone with the acoustics.  Me, my voice, a chair, and my guitar hung out for a good hour.  When my kids grow up, I might keep a room empty just for the acoustics.
