Topic: Shenandoah River Jam

I have had my first request as to whether we would be having another jam alongside the Shenandoah River this coming summer.  Well, considering how successfully the last one went (excepting Guitarpix's tent), I think it's a must.

How did folks who attended last year like the facility?  More specifically, should I look for a different one?

One thing to know is that such an event will be more likely in June rather than July of this year.  Most of July is committed for me already.

Re: Shenandoah River Jam

I should mention that those who didn't attend and who live along the mid-Atlantic somewhere can have a vote as to where else they may like to see one.  Perhaps not this summer, as I already have travel plans, but there are other seasons of the year and other years with summers.

Well, next summer is looking a little sketchy too unless you live in Oregon.

Re: Shenandoah River Jam

It's a must! But I think it should expand into The Shenandoh River Festival! The campsite, facilities and organisation (thanks to Zurf) were all first class - if you can possibly get there for the next one, you won't be disappointed. I also like the idea of Chordie Jams elsewhere - Florida would be rather nice during the Winter months! Toney?

Re: Shenandoah River Jam

I agree that the campground was very nice.  I've been to quite a few in my lifetime being near enough to the Adirondacks.  The thing that impressed me most was NO MOSQUITOS!  I loved that part!  Having the river rushing by while sleeping was a big plus.  The people at the site were fun loving and no one was obtrusive.  The ground was even.  The people running the campground made everyone feel at home.  There was enough nearby to do if one wanted to... or... you could just cook cow and have drinks and relax.  wink

Yep - I agree, we must do this again....I would recommend regional jams for the folks who can't make it quite as far as the shenandoah. We have chordie folk all over the world and I am sure there will be much fun to be had in other places as well.

From looking at the pics that were posted from the one this past summer.. definitely looks like a blast.  I was looking for the name of the campground to check it out...  can't seem to find it... maybe Zurf you could post that again..  living outside of DC..  this could happen..   love jammin' with good people.

Lowwater Bridge Campground in Bentonville, Virginia

I've stayed there a few times and enjoyed it every time.  It's relatively convenient, or perhaps it would be better to say equally inconvenient, to several highways.

It sounds like folks who stayed there thought the facilities were adequate.  The bath-house was a pretty long walk, and that was the major inconvenience I think.  Plus you had to keep an eye on when the tube and kayak renters were due back from the river as the bath-houses got pretty crowded then.  Otherwise, it worked out pretty well.

The drunken 'possum and the friendly raccoon were toppers this past time.  I love that the raccoon just walked around the outside of the jam circle and stopped to wave when he got behind Dirty Ed.  Then he came out later to share a margarita with Roger (who is not on Chordie, but put on a heck of a light show for us).
