Topic: NGD, and then not.

When I was letting Zurf know about the deal Guitar Center had on the Martin X series, I accidentally talked myself into getting one. I really like the sound of the thing for the money, I had to get in the $2000 + range before I could really appreciate a difference in sound for the price. I was hooked and brought one home but after hours of play I found it was not that easy to play. While checking out the setup I found there is no truss rod on these things either. I invested in some medium light, the lowest recommended string guage, and went at playing again. Still found it hard to play and that my fretting hand was getting too tired to play. I took it back to day, I realized when buying a Martin I would make no compromise. I will wait until the money to buy a D-28 or D-35 is available before getting my Martin. In the meantime I am very happy with my 30+ year old Yamaha and my el cheapo Alvarez. Perhaps a Yairi will become available at a price I can live with, they seem to be well respected.

Re: NGD, and then not.

Hi Southrn.  I hear you.  I purchased a D-35 back in 2009.  It is SWEET machine, so I for one will concur that it is worth the wait and price.  The sound of my D-35 with new strings is almost surreal.  I just wish there was a better guitarist around than me who could bring it to life.  Keep pushing.

Further, I bouhght an X series Marin 12 string (D12X1) last year and am looking to unload it.  Nice guitar, but like you, I find it difficult to play.  There are better options.
