My goal was to become a “good guitar player" . Two and a half years later I can play the guitar – sort of. Then I discover simple performances such as the two videos below and I can’t help wondering if I have what it takes.

It looks so simple but clearly there is a LOT more to it then banging away on the guitar. (I realize I am seeing the final product of a lot of hard work, practice, etc.) “Musical ability" , rhythm, confidence or is it something else? I think maybe if I could/would sing the guitar would take care of itself?
I love playing and the sound of an acoustic guitar but what I think I am now realizing is that this is not enough and my original goal is misguided. I’m comfortable as a public speaker but singing is a whole new challenge. I can learn to sing I suppose but can I conquer the demon of confidence.
My dear Chordie friends, can you offer any ideas, suggestions, advice? I don’t plan to be on stage but I do want to enjoy the guitar and music with friends, family, etc.
p.s. I'm driving my son to Duke University today to a tennis camp. I will contemplate this issue during my LONG drive. I hope to hear from my friends here. Thanks in advance.
