Topic: Garage band programme
I have seen a demo of the "Garage Band" programme on ipad and it looks like a lot of fun. Anyone have any experience with or knowledge on this programme?

I think I'm right in saying that you can only run Garage Band on Apple stuff, but don't hold me to that! A mate of mine has it on his Mac and reckons its the dogs danglies.

Anything that is the dogs danglies has my vote. I haven't used it either, but have done a little reading on it.
Garage Band is awesome for one fact alone: The video guitar and piano lessons that come with it. If you want to bang out a quick rhythm track to jam along with, it's pretty good at that, too. If you're looking for more full featured DAW software, I don't think you can find a better value than Reaper from Cockos.
isn't garage band free? that's a pretty good value.
So is Reaper. If you don't pay for it, all you end up with is a bit of a counter on startup reminding you that you have been using the software for X days.
If you want to pay for it, it's $60 if you're an amateur shmoe like me, and $225 if you're putting out commercial records with it. While it's not quite Pro Tools, it's pretty close.
Hello folks and thanks for your comments. I am presently downloading "garage band", only $5.50 here in Aus so will see how it goes and keep you posted. I think I will need another lead with 1/4 inch socket to plug in guitar and connect to ipad. Does anyone know anything about this, Jerome maybe ?

Check in with Russell in the Recording forum. I'd be surprised if he doesn't know the answer.

I don't have an iPad, but my understanding is that it doesn't have any audio input, so you can't record on it. Garage Band for iPad uses MIDI instruments so you use it like a drum pad to create songs.
I am an Apple aficionado, though. My Mac Mini is turning out to be a sweet little recording studio for a relatively low cost.
Combine this

this (not specifically required, but nice to have)

this
these

and a couple of these

Add your guitars and amps to taste, and you have hours of entertainment for relatively little outlay.
Thanks Jerome, some good tips there however I may have to wait until my 12 year old grandaughter shows me the way around this software. LOL. I agree with you on the Apple gear, I like it so far. 'Garage Band" is amazing.
