Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

I completely understand your position smile In about 3 years time I bought, sold, & traded around 100 guitars. I'd buy and sell and buy and sell trying to find the next one that was a little better & every once in a while I'd come across one that was just not for re-sale and it'd get put aside as a keeper smile  I worked up to having 6 that I knew I'd never part with and have been GAS free for over a year smile However, there is this Cedar/Rosewood Stonebridge OM that would round out the collection quite nicely and has been trying to creep into my subconsious lately big_smile lol

Well, of course you need the Larrivee.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

Pete,
Thanks for the nudge. As if I ever need a nudge to feed the beast of GAS.

I've revamped my capital campaign to offset the cash from the SC purchase. I am confident I will prevail.

I guess photos to follow? More likely a family album!

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

The Art & Lutherie "Ami" (parlor guitar) is for sale. In fact, I've got a buyer for today. I like this guitar but in order to properly consider the Larrivee I must sell something and it didn't make the cut. I may decide to replace it at some point but for now I have both a 00 and 000 body for travel. I am hoping they are not too unwieldy and more importantly will fit in an overhead bin of a commercial aircraft.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

Ami = Sold!

I am most definitely armed and dangerous. A Larrivee viewing Thursday...hopefully. If not there's this great...

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

Delighted I am with my (gasp) glossy, affordable, imported Silver Creek. Throw in a cut-away and an obnoxious pre-amp control panel cut into the side it would be the antithesis of everything I think I want in a guitar. It is causing me to reconsider some things but I'm sure the price has a LOT to do with it. It's not everyday a deal like this drops from the sky.

I know, another soliloquy.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

Thursday has come and gone. No seller. Just like the real deal of the Silver Creek earlier in the week this deal has seemingly evaporated. Well, win some, lose some. The Seagull just got a reprieve and a promotion!

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

I spent some time with the Seagull last night. Lovely, no regrets.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

Four hours or so with the Seagull yesterday. Such joy, and the Seagull wasn't bad either.

The Larrivee is still posted on CL? Unmotivated seller I suppose.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

The seller finally contacted me. And just when I had convinced myself to keep the Seagull and move on. Oh the agony. I suppose I could take the Seagull along for the audition for an A/B opportunity? Someone banish me from Craig's List!

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

After playing cat and mouse with the seller of the Larrivee I've decided it wasn't meant to be. There are several reasons for this not the least of which is the difficult and sporadic communication with what must be a unmotivated seller. Another reason is I already own a Seagull with very similar construction and materials - although a dreadnought - and feel I can get very similar sound and playing enjoyment from the Seagull, at about half the cost.

Part of the attraction to the Larrivee is the OM body. And, as you know, I recently acquired a nice 000-body guitar that fell from the sky into my lap at an unbeatable price. Both of these guitars - the Seagull and the Silver Creek - offer a wide nut like the OM so I've got that covered as well.

Now, the only thing I don't like about the Silver Creek is the glossy, dipped-in-plastic look. I much prefer satin finishes but I am willing (and able) to overlook that for now. The sound and playability is fantastic. It's is solid wood which is a bonus. The Silver Creek is hanging in my office and has caused quite a stir among my guitar-playing colleageus.

So, for now, I intend to hold what I've got in the Seagull, the Silver Creek, and the Cort (mahogany) guitars. I may once again consider a travel-sized (3/4) guitar such as a Little Martin. While there are other good choices, the Little Martin allows the use of medium strings (some others don't, most notably, the Baby Taylor) and I have owned one previously and liked it. For what I have invested in any one of my guitars I could travel with any of them but the 3/4 size eliminates the need to put the guitar in checked baggage which is a time liability and potentially a damage liability as well.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

Little Martin in the house! I acquired an older model LXM which apparently spent it's entire life in the padded gig bag. Not a mark on it and I think it still had the original strings! So now I own a Martin albeit one of the most affordable variants.

p.s. I contacted the seller of the Larrivee (finally) and told him I would pass on his guitar.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

OK, I can get the general thought but, what does gas mean? besides that very expensive fuel we put in our cars.  b

Thanks TD, had that a few times my self.   b

Careful Bobwill, GAS is contagious!

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

The Silver Creek T-160, best use of Quarters yet. And to think I'd been drooling over a Recording King RO-06 for two years. They sell for about $400. This is the SAME guitar. I am lucky!

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

I wrote a post earlier about a nice Yamaha guitar I bought at a Mobile, Alabama flea market for $85. I had no cash that day so my son lent me the $85 plus ten more for a new light kit for my utility trailer.
My son listed the guitar on Craigslist and then E-Bay and found that so many guitars were for sale he got no bids. I offered to pay him back but he said the guitar looked pretty leaning against his bedroom wall and he was enjoying strumming it.
He told me yesterday that he sold it to a friend for $150. Yippy doo! I don't have to pay him back and I got a free light kit.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

It's been a while since I chimed in. I've got some personal things I'm dealing with in life right now but I do find a minute or two to play every now and again. I brought the Silver Creek home (from my office) and I must say it is impressive. I still can't believe the deal I got on this. Despite its shiny appearance it sounds great and is very responsive.

Re: Oh no! GAS meets Opportunity

Toots, you are quite the wheeler dealer.  And naolsalger, good for you for finding the good deal.  I'm glad you're happy with it.

Isn't it a great feeling when you get a good deal? Funny how we're always looking for a score.
