Topic: Beatles event

Wow what a great time we had at the Beatles event. It started at 12 noon and went till  12 midnite. Some great bands played . The band "Abby Road" were a beatle impersonaters from the hair, to clothes, and instruments and played very well from Nova Scotia. A great band from Sweden called the "Repeatles" were very good also. They did a tribute to the "Who". Hal Bruce and his band "Ticket 2 Ride" were the hosts and have a real tite band. Jay Goeppner from Chicago did a tribute to John Lennon. Jim 'Ringo' Marrtin was a Ringo Starr impersonater and was awesome. The highlite of the nite was when all the bands got on stage and did a tribute to 1967 The Summer Of Love.
A 40th anniversay tribute with classic songs of the Mamas and Papas, Donovan, Simon and Garfunkel, The Who, The Kinks, The Lovin Spoonful, The Small Faces, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Hermans Hermits, and Janis Joplin.Wow what a time. The wobblie pops and whiskey were flowing and we all danced all day and nite. So good were are going again next year as it will be annual.

This music is good for the soul.

Re: Beatles event

Sounds like a dandy event with great music - I would have loved to have been there.  I used to look down upon tribute bands and impersonators until I met an Elvis impersonator - a truly gifted performer who happened to enjoy the music of Elvis and who got a kick out of bringing that music back to life.

He was also a person of great personal integrity, because he felt that everything he did reflected upon the memory of Elvis.  He was like a one-man missionary movement for the First Church of Elvis - a little weird, but a person full of positive energy and brimming with musical talent.  So, now I see tribute bands and impersonators differently - I realize they are also musicians pursuing their dreams and I applaud their efforts.

Is this group of bands touring together?  Seems like a mighty elaborate production for a one-time show.  Was there anybody there born after 1985?  Did the medical tent have geriatric specialists?  James

Re: Beatles event

Hello James, The crowd of about 800 were an older crowd. Yes there was some talk of taking the show on tour. Did not see any medical tents. I like you always thought impersonater were just trying to make a buck from someone else. But these guys were real musicians. Over a 12 hour span I think every beatles song  was covered. Next year is the third annual. they may need a bigger venue as last year they had about 500 in the crowd. I'll go again thats for sure.

Re: Beatles event

Hey Badeye,

Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend and I only wish I could have been there too. A few years ago I saw the 'Bootleg Beatles' in the UK and they were 'fab'. It is surprising how good some of the tribute bands are, and you and James are right, they should not be dismissed as just jumping on someone else's bandwagon for a swift buck.

Glad you had such a fun time,

Roger

,well worth the $40 dollars per ticket. And the motel was posh. A little out of my price range but you got to treat yourselve sometimes. Felt so great to see live bands and talk to them at the meet and greet corner. We all got T-shirts and poster and also bought a few C D's. Don't hesitate if they come close to you. Been singing Beatles songs in my head ever since, LOL.

Re: Beatles event

Hey Brad, sounds like a good time was had by all! Maybe next year I will make the effort to drive out to see it. It is only a 15 hour drive and it sounds like it's worth every Km ( the concert and the chowder at Saltys'). Maybe I could time it with some work out east....at least the drive would be paid. lol

Have a good one,
Mike

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket babe
