Verse 1

[Em]We forget our [D]memories

For[Em]get most precious [D]time

For[Em]get those who have [D]lived before

And [Am]go on with our [Am7]lives

Verse 2

[Em]Times we still re[D]member

[Em]People from the [D]past

With[Em]out whose selfless [D]sacrifice

Our [Am]lives would come to [Am7]past

[C]Names sometimes are [Em]passed on

Some [D]names we never [Em]knew

[C]Faceless names from [Em]long ago

[Am]We all owe so much [Am7]to

Verse 3

I [Em] think of how they [D]might have felt

Their [Em]world in such tur[D]moil

Un[Em]knowing of their [D]perils

[Am]As they went off [Am7]war

Verse 4

I [Em]wonder what they [D]might have been

Those [Em]battle shorten [D]lives

What [Em]great things that were [D]never seen

But [Am]for their sacri[Am7]fice

[C]Lives sometimes are [Em]sacrificed

[D]The lives they’ll never [Em]know

[C]Taken very [Em]early on

[Am]So many yearsa[Am7]go … so many years ago

Verse 4

[Em]Here we are alive right [D]now

[Em]In the world they [D]saved

[Em]Looking back re[D]membering

[Am]All the things they [Am7]gave

Verse 5

Some[Em]times I take for [D]granted

The [Em]life I get to [D]live

[Em]Never asked to [D]sacrifice

[Am]Never asked to [Am7]give

[C]Would I [Em]be as brave

[D]How could I do [Em]more

[C]Surpass their heavy [Em]sacrifice

[Am]Upon that foreign [Am7]shore [Em]

"Where you begin doesn't matter. Your willingness to start is what counts."
Without music life would be a mistake.
Country music is three chords and the truth.

Thanks Steelstrings,

This song is for them, but more than the Americans made the same sacrifice.

Re: Upon That Foreign Shore

Jeff, Great song. We'll never know all the people who scarificed for our freedoms, the ones we owe so much to. This is a great tribute to all of them. When you write a song it's giving up a part of who you are. Be proud of who you are Jeff. Thanks.

Re: Upon That Foreign Shore

Another great song Jeff.  And especially nice that you posted it for Memorial weekend!  I look forward to meeting you and hearing more of your tunes at the Doah Jam in July.

I thought about posting one of my new ones too, but it's about the Civil War and a pretty dark song.

Re: Upon That Foreign Shore

Thanks very much Ed.

I'm looking forward to the Doah Jam too. It's going to be fun and I look forward to meeting you. I'd like to hear your Civil War song as well. I like dark songs.

Take care,

Jeff

Re: Upon That Foreign Shore

I just saw this one Jeff I really must get some glasses.
My Dad served during the second world war. D day etc and I have wondered myself if I could have been so brave. Thank God I did'nt have to find out.  We owe these men our way of life.
Great song.
