Topic: Jammin at the Antique Store

Just a cool little jam that happened when Lizzie and I were traveling around the other day. We had been to Sheridan and on the way home stopped in Buffalo and stopped at an antique store. Lizzie was buying a few trinkets from the store owner and I helped myself to one of the two guitars she had on stands. I was just jammin and noodlin around, the guitar was in tune and sounded pretty good. The store owner said You're hired you can play here all day, I just kept on playin till Lizzie and her were done with the transaction. Then I was about to hang up the guitar and she said "Oh No We're gonna play a few" so she grabbed a guitar and she said play and I'll follow. So I played "Will The Circle be Unbroken" , I followed with "Don't Think Twice''  I then played "Mr Bojangles"  and she was right with me smile  She played "The Boxer"  and I followed her, she invited me to the weekly jam every thursday night, and that just like I had , They open every jam with "Will the Circle be Unbroken".
It was just a really nice afternoon and I love it when something like this just happens, when music brings folks together and the good times.

Lizzie was sharing what we had done for the day with my oldest daughter and she said "Who in the heck does something like that, Dad is so weird" . I guess I may be weird but I love jammin with others that love music smile

Re: Jammin at the Antique Store

Great story! My daughter thinks I'm weird...but in a good way I suppose. Once I took her to Banjo.com's "showroom" - which  happens to be near my house. On the way into the store she was texting someone, or so I thought. About two weeks later, while at a New Years Eve party several people asked me about my visit to the "banjo store". I was shocked. How did they know?

It turns out my daughter wasn't texting but instead updating her Facebook status with "Another weird shopping spree with my dad. We are entering a store that sells only banjos and unicycles."

Good times!

By the way: Banjo.com and Unicycle.com are co-located and owned by the same man.

Suggested motto: Everyone is someone else's weirdo.

Re: Jammin at the Antique Store

My earliest memories of live music was when I was about 6 or 7 yrs old. My Dad would take me to this little store that was just a few miles from home where he traded,The guy who owned the store played a mandolin. Sometimes his friends would be there, a couple guitar pickers, a fiddle, banjo and someone was always singing, all this going on around an old pot bellied stove in the winter time. Thats what hooked me in music.

Thats a great story Wayne, it's a great way to meet new friends and connect with music, your so lucky to have that. My Dad and his friend who owned that store are both gone now along with the store itself, but to this day his son and I are still friends, and when we see each other we have to talk about those days "Back When" Thanks for the story Wayne, I guess it just got me to reminiscing when you mention Antique Store. I suppose even some memories can be cherished antique's.

Jammin around a pot belly stove in the winter.  That sounds like fun also.

Good stories!  keep em coming!  smile  My 6 year old's favorite word is "Wierdo", but my husband gets a few more compliments than I do on being one.  smile  "you're such a weirdo!" as she giggles and makes a funny face.  I LOVE being a weirdo!

That's a good kind of weird, if you ask me.
