it's the sound of music by joy division

Sounds like they're just relaxing their finger-grip on the chord to get that "Chunk" sound.
Chord is F# I think...not a lot of bass in that audio sample...that or they're only playing on the higher 4 strings and leaving out the E &A strings.

For some reason my post was deleted.

The chord is an F or F5 but it's only the higher strings. By higher I mean pitch, not location.

They've got some kind of distortion on there and like Detman said, they're just muting the strings with the left hand for the un-pitched sound. I'll edit this when I figure out the kind of distortion.

Thanks all - I'll give it a try!

Both above are correct. He is using a "chop" rhythm with a lot of distortion. I hear him rocking back and forth from F to Bb back and forth.
Chop rhythm is very effective using all covered chords (barres).

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?

I've been trying this:

---0---
---5---
---4---
---5---
---X---
---X---

with a muffled A and low E and it sounds OK
