Those are generally barre chords. You lay your index finger across several strings and make the rest of the chord with your remaining three fingers.
There are a million recommendations and threads on here about barre chords. It would probably be helpful for you to do a topic search on them. Also, there are some Youtube videos giving instruction on barre chords.

If you go to the beginning of the Chordie site you will see a tab for a large printable chord chart pr go to www.chordfind.com
Okay, so I was looking at Ring Of Fire, and I found the Intro tab, but it's kind of odd. Here it is:
--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------0-----------------------------
---7-7-7-7-7-7 ---9-----7----------4-4-4-4-4-4--5--2-4--
--------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------0------------------------
--0-7-5-4----0-4-5-----7-7-7-7-7-7----9-----7--------0--4-4-4-4-4-4--5-2-4--
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any ideas?
Thanks.
I was just looking on YouTube and there are lots of lessons for this song.
We need to grow more fingers?
Hi Michael,
Isn't that tab laying out the melody line for the Ring of Fire: "Love is burning flame"? I think you can pick it according to the rhythm that Johnny Cash sings it.

Looks like and sounds like the melody played on the open e string. Why? I'm not sure maybe our theory Guru's can answer.

Yes it is laying out the melody line, but it starts out as Love Is A Burning Thing. You were very close on that. Thanks for your help!
