Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

Update: GAS continues. Today I purchased a new Cort L450C-NS mahogany body guitar off of eBay for $209! I could not resist this as it has almost exactly the same specifications as the Martin 00-15 guitar, which costs 5.49 times more. Sorry C.F. Martin. It even has a dovetail neck joint, which seems to be considered superior to the mortise and tenon (bolt-on) variant offered on many guitars to include the 15-series Martins. (I own many bolt-on neck guitars and I have no sonic awareness or preference for either assembly technique.)

Because the DRS1 was purchased through a store credit garnered when I returned the Martin LXK2 (travel guitar) the store credit still exists. I plan to call them to see if I can get the Little Martin back. I can’t stand the $300 outstanding credit and I can keep (and play the Little Martin), sell it, or give it to someone. This last option is something I’ve been considering for a quite a while. When I started to play guitar I prayed for help so that someday I could share music with others. Since MY music is progressing slowly, giving guitars to would-be players may be the best way for me to share music (or at least the gift of music) with others.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

It doesn't have to be just 'would-be' players to whom you give Martin guitars.  Just saying...  Campfire picking river rats need love too.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

p.s. Last night I checked eBay just to see if the guitar had sold or if there were any other bidders. The listing had been removed and relisted at a new higher price ($279). This is the normal retail price so I don’t know if the $209 price was a mistake but I suspect it was. I hope they honor this price. I did receive a verbal price confirmation and I enclosed a screen shot of the item (and $209) price along with specific instructions of what I wanted to buy and for how much.

Zurf, subtlety is your forte!

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

A chance seating arrangement last night at church during a Lenten dinner. I ended up sitting next to the primary guitarist from the Praise team. We had an excellent dinner conversation and with that I've added one more person to my group of loose associates helping on my musical journey and indexed one step closer to participating on the praise team. Thanks be to God!

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

I called the folks at MUSICIAN'S HEAVEN and they said the ($209) price was wrong but they would honor it! Hat tip to Musician's Heaven.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

A good deal on both counts, naolslager.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

Used my "Little Martin" credit at the guitar store to purchase an Epiphone DR-500M-NAT. (Trusty mahogany/spruce dreadnought.) I've been eyeing this all the while courting the Martins and decided to put myself out of my misery. Sorry Zurf. I know you were anticipating a gift for the campfire-picking river rat. Maybe next rime?

Didn't really want a dreadnought but when I played it against the smaller bodies I just couldn't part with the bass response.

My A&L Dreadnought has been put on Craig's List.

All I want to do is play right now but it's back to work.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

I suppose I'll get over the disappointment some day.

Happy NGD.  My sister has an Epiphone dreadnaught that has me envious.  When she's been down on her luck, I've bought it from her twice, but always found excuses to give it back to her.  Some day I'd like to own it again and not give it back to her.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

With all my non-playing activities, I thought it would be prudent every now and then to mention when do play. Today has been a good day. Many hours (?) of uninterrupted playing and my fingers are sore. i love it. Been messing around with the software "Garage Band" and discovered despite Apple's claim of simplicity I think I need one of my teenage kids to show me how to use it. I may even be so bold as to post a video on YouTube, won't be the first time. Don't expect much, mainly just messing around. But so much fun!

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

My new Cort L450C-NS arrived a few minutes ago! Wow! Photographs to follow later today.
So far, I am VERY impressed.
Solid mahogany top and back, 00-size body - very well executed.
And I paid slightly over 2 C notes.
I would love to have a Martin, I suppose, but this instrument is amazing.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

Niiiice.  Happy NGD.  Now go play it.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

Cool.  Great looking guitar.  I always think "electric" when I think Cort.  I don't know why acoustics don't come to mind with a guitar like that.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

Good looking guitar.  If she sounds like she looks, you've got it made.  I'm happy for you.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

Leave for Europe today. Return on Friday. Too short a trip to endure all the hassles of bringing a guitar along. So I will go without:(

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

Happy NGD! That looks like a great player and a possible new long time friend. Like
the natural finish and I'm sure it adds to the overall sound. Wish my new crafter had
the same to add to a better tone but I'm still happy and impressed with the sound it
delivers. Have a good, safe trip.       Mike

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

Dino48,
I am a big believer in "natural" finishes. I like the look and feel of wood. I realize gloss has its advantages but it just doesn't appeal to me. Recently I purchased an Epi Masterbilt (over the Guild GAD offering) due to the Epi's satin back and sides. I am convinced they are virtually the same guitar, built in the same factory but the Guilds are (overly) glossy which I think makes them sound "tight".

The Cort begs to be held and played. I love it. Boy, all this talk about guitars and I chose to travel w/o one for once. Well I'll be home (Atlanta) on Friday. Currently residing in Tbilisi, Georgia (the country of Georgia - a wonderful place by the way).

I'm back and playing! Great remedy for jet lag.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

on playing: Stuck in a rut. I must try something new.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

I retuned the Epiphone. A very nice guitar but not the guitar for me. And I seem to have an aversion to paying more than about $300 for a guitar. The good news is I stayed within the return policy and Sam Ash refunded all my CASH money. I'm not necessarily a fan of the big chains but this particular store and salesman has treated me right despite the commissioned sales model of compensation.

Re: GET BACK TO PLAYING!

As always, fighting GAS but the "deals" just keep surfacing. Got my eye on two such irresistible opportunities right now. Playing some, but not as much as I'd hoped or as much as I should be. Busy now preparing for a few weeks in Europe. However I will take a guitar with me and I am trying to convince one of my fellow travelers to do the same.
