I once read somewhere"can't remember where", but somewhere that Roy Orbison's riff to "pretty woman" was the most recogized riff ever written. I'm sure thats debatable but again, just something I read somewhere at some point.

Smoke on the water...the first riff everyone learns too. Just goes to show that it doesn't have to be hard to be good. Powerful but oh so easy
Not sure it qualifies, but my favourite is the opening to Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here....the reason I started playing was to get that down.
Race With The Devil - Cliff Gallup playing on the Gene Vincent track
C'mon Everybody - Eddie Cochran
Shakin' All Over - Johnny Kidd
Ain't nobody said anything about "Secret Agent Man" = dats a good one.

no way dude! its the intro to Long Cool Woman in a Black dress by the Hollys
Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress by The Hollys
I think I would have to go with a few; Layla, You Really Got Me (Kinks version); Cocaine; Sunshine of Your Love- Do we have to pick just one? For bass- listen to the bass lines on Bob Marley's I Shot the Sheriff. Hands down- you can't listen to that bass line and sit still.
