Topic: What songs have you played on the guitar?

So yeah I was wondering what songs you have played? I have played easy Christmas songs a little, A boy named sue by Johnny Cash, Rusty Cage by Johnny Cash and that's about it....

I've played amateur guitar for more years than I care to mention and as I progessed (if that's the right word) I've had a bash at most of the well known acoustic songs some with success and others well..
Some that I go back to regularly just the for enjoyment of playing are Tears in heaven, Streets of London, House of the rising Sun.... etc
If you play long enough you sometimes forget what you've learnt in the past and then hear a song and think ah yes I used be able to play that..

I had a night club band with the same five guys for six years.
We were all married, had kids and mortgages.
Our working song list averaged around 100 tunes. We probably knew 600 or so together. I would occasionally call a song that we hadn't played together for a year or so just to hear them groan and moan.
We reached a point where upon request, if any one of us knew the lyrics to a song, he would just yell out what key and go. The rhythm and chords usually were right including three part harmony on vocals.
Some of these requested songs went so well, we would jot it down on our current tune list to play nightly. Sometimes we would clean one up at a rehearsal. Club bands need to rehearse together two or three afternoons a week. Only on rare occasions did we splatter one off the walls so bad we had to stop and apologize to the audience. We always warned our crowd in advance when we were going to wing one on a request.

I  enjoy most kinds of music so my list of songs I have played is very long. The list of songs I have played well is not as long.

I'm with Deadstring!  smile  I just organized my binder of music the other day and there's a LOT of stuff in there that I try regularly, but what I can play well is another story!

Hi gang,

My guitar teacher isn't too thrilled that I get chord sheets from Chordie.com. Still it has been a great help to me, especially the link to jango. I have used the beginners section and found some easy start-up songs.
With the tips from my teacher, encouragement from my supportive wife, and practise, there is some evidence of progress.
