Topic: Yamaha fg 340

Does anybody know when they stopped making the FG 340 with the 3 piece back? I know they  restarted the series at some point but I think the ones from the 70's and 80's were the ones with the 3 piece back. I have come across one for $100 dollars and it seems to good to pass up. According to the serial number is was made in 67,77,87,97, or 07 but I think the 3 piece back dates them to 77 or 87. Anyway it looks really nice and for $100 I think I have to have it.

Re: Yamaha fg 340

The earlier models (70's) had the truss rod access/cover on the headstock and the center panel of the 3 piece back was darker than the outside panels... The ones from the mid-later 80's had the same finish on all the back panels (still 3 piece) and I believe the truss rod access was moved to the soundhole then as well. Hope that helps..... -Pix

Thanks Pix, that is what I remember reading some time ago about these. I have not read a bad review or comment on them other than the neck reset you mentioned in the Alvarez post. I am going to look at it and hope the action is good because they are supposed to sound amazing.

Southrnrockr,
Check out Yamaha's Guitar Archive. I do believe the 340 is a 3-piece back. For a solid-top with 3-piece back, check out an FG-365 S (or SII). Very nice and readily available although sometimes they are priced as if they are rare.
