Not sure what this will lead to but I made a $92 investment and wound up with these. An Abilene mandolin and a Johnson case. No problems with either so if I can't learn it I should be able to get my investment back.
That looks nice. I wouldn't mind falling into something like that myself. I have never pleyed a mondolin, but have always wanted to try. Good luck. Let us know how things turn out.

Hello all, like deadstring, I have had a brain snap and gone and bought a mandolin, and again like deadstring, I don't know where this all will lead to. I have never played one before except to have a bash in music shops but I think there is a lot of fun to be had trying to get my big fingers around these tiny things.
I have sent the money and waiting anxiously now for the mando to be delivered. Ho Ho Ho to me.

Get ready! If your fingers are not sore now they will be.
I have determined that my nut could be lowered a little and hopefully ease my fretting but I don't know if I want to try this myself or not. My fear is breaking something while removing the nut.(Plastic I think). I don't know much about my Mando since it came from a Pawn Shop. The name on the head stock is "Abilene". It was made in Korea. An ASM-10 I ran a search and came up empty. Pretty low end I would guess.

Mandos rock. They're impossible to play, and "mandolin" is an Italian word that means "out of tune," but they are a full hoot.
I've got one hanging in my office.... been played maybe 5 times.
I found it difficult to play and didn't have the gumption to learn all new chord forms....maybe someday I'll pick it up again.
I paid about 100 bucks for mine....hope you have better luck...or at least better ambition!
My Mrs. has said for years that I was mad. Since I bought this mandolin, her opinion of me has been upgraded to completely nuts.
Thanks folks for all the encouragement, (wink)- sore fingers, impossible to play, Mandolin in Italian means out of tune, got one hanging in the office.
Can't wait for it to arrive.

Hello deadstring, yes the mando arrived. Sure is a lot of fun, I learnt a few 2 finger chords quickly and have been having a ball with this little instrument playing some of the tunes in my songbook. I am not sure where I will end up with the mando but the enjoyment level at the moment is high.
How are you progressing with yours?

I am learning a little each day. Having a blast.
I find it fun to choose a song and lay down a track on the Audacity program with my guitar and then play along with it on the Mandolin. No fancy picking here yet but having fun. AL
