Re: what are some fo you doing for new years?

I haven't done anything special for New Years in several years.  I don't even stay up til midnight any more.  I'm an old fart, I guess

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Staying at home and watching a heck of a World Junior hockey game between Canada and Sweden...and having a beer...or four...or five..or six.
Happy New Year to all and remember (hopefully) not to drink and drive.

P.S. Canada scored with .5 seconds left in period #1 to go ahead 3-2. Great game, lots of clean hitting and back and forth action.  smile

I'm with Benson, I'm just to old anymore, I'll most likely pick a little guitar, watch a ballgame then bed, but I wish everyone here on Chordie a great New Year.

Re: what are some fo you doing for new years?

Yesterday was an unbelievably warm day for New Years Eve (58 degrees F locally) so I grabbed my waders and a fishing rod I'd recently built and headed to a nearby creek.  Sure enough, the ice was off and I managed to catch a 19" smallmouth bass, which is exceptionally large for the small streams in our area. I took a couple pictures and then let her go for the next angler to tussle with on another day. Catching such a fine fish on the last day of the year was a thrill for this old fisherman.  After I returned home I watched some college football, then  a movie with Jennifer (wife) until midnight.

Today I've been invited to attend a "Hair of the Dog" jam at a friends house who is an exceptional local artist and musician.  There'll be pickers from several country and bluegrass groups show up and the music will last all night. Last time I attended one of John's get-togethers there were three upright basses, a couple fiddles, a couple banjos, three mandolins and about a dozen guitar players.  The living room, den, kitchen, basement, each had a group playing and folks would move from group to group, sitting in for a few songs before moving on to play with the next bunch. Everyone brings a covered dish and there will be a big pot of beans cooking, not to mention a few adult beverages included. Since Jen is an artist she's been invited also and will join the other artists who aren't musicians and make sketches of the pickers. I expect we'll have a high old time.  It starts at 4 pm so I'll be able to catch a couple college bowl games first.

I hope that you all will also have a great day. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all Chordians

Re: what are some fo you doing for new years?

Saw the new year in quietly (for a change) with my wife watching the TV. There was a great fireworks display at midnight around the London eye near Tower Bridge. Seems to to get bigger every year it must cost thousands.
Here's wishing all Chordians a Happy and Healthy new year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We usually have a party at home, however my kids are sick so we cancelled it this year and just hung out and played the wii.  I fell asleep at 11:20 and was woken my my son and husband at the last 10 seconds of 2010, just in time to yell out the happy new year greeting and then make my way to bed.  I'm usually much more exciting than this.  LOL!  On the other hand, it was nice not having to play hostess this year and just chill.  I'm thinking after a little cleaning of the house, some guitar playing is in order to ring in 2011 correctly!

Re: what are some fo you doing for new years?

It was warm here too and I had some cabin fever driving me bonkers.  So the kids and I loaded up in the truck to try and find something to do.  We found mini-golf.  The kids were rude and had very unsportsmanlike behavior while we played.  So bad that I nearly loaded them up in the truck at about the 11th hole.  But they finally heard me and we finished up the game with a lot more fun that battle.  We then got some ice cream, during which the kids were well behaved, but the youngest was rude and selfish the whole way home.  Pretty soon, the youngest asked whether they could go to bed early.  She slept for 11 hours and the youngest slept for over 12 hours, so I'm hoping that today will be a better more relaxed and enjoyable day.

Because we are going to a dinner party at a friend's house this evening, my wife cooked pork and sauerkraut for me last night and I'll have it again for lunch today.

I would like to restart my tradition of fishing on New Years Day to break in my new license.  Herschel (only Dirty Ed knows him) extended an open invitation.  He's a regular paddling partner, the only kind I will paddle with during cold water season, and so I was tempted - but my wife would be understandably very upset if I went paddling when we have the dinner plans for tonight.

Went to sleep on the sofa about 9;30 and woke up 15 minutes into a New Year.
Wished the wife a Happy New Year and  we retired for the night. Not real exciting stuff but thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Re: what are some fo you doing for new years?

With it being warm and sunny here yesterday,  (upper 50's)  I spent about an hour sitting in the sun with guitar on the front porch playing and just soaking up the rays.  Watched a little football, my Ohio State basketball team and then a little Bluejackets hockey, then, my sisters and brother-in-law came down and we played cards, games etc with some good snacks and some icy cold beverages until the wee hours.

Set-up began at about 5:30PM. Folks started showing up about 6:00PM. A quick "covered dish" supper followed and the music started @ 7:00PM. Played 'til midnight - wife got to sing 5 songs - rang in the New Year then ate Black-eyed Peas and Cabage. Got home about 2:30AM.

Re: what are some fo you doing for new years?

Attended the "Hair of the Dog Jam" on New Years Day.  Two doghouse basses, two mandos, three harmonica players, one fiddle, one banjo and six guitars.  We played from 4 pm until 2 am.  I didn't get home until after 3 am and went bed about 4.  Woke up around 11 with sore finger tips and a sore head.

Hope all of you enjoyed New Years Day.
