Topic: Acoustic Electric

Hi, I have been learning to play on an Alhambra classical guitar which I bought from the factory here in Spain. However, I am now of the opinion that I need an acoustic electric, mainly for the narrower neck as I am having a nightmare with some chords i.e F and bar  chords. There are soooo many makes out there, can anyone suggest a short list of makes to choose from. I want a second hand acoustic electric. Better still can anyone suggest a good website to buy from with reasonable shipping charges?

Re: Acoustic Electric

Welcome to Chordie, gwilymflord, and Merry Christmas. Can't offer you any makes / models for you as I do not know what would be available to you in Spain. Keep in mind, though, that along with a good quality A/E guitar comes the need for a good quality acoustic amp. To get the best sound from your A/E guitar you need an  amp. An electric guitar amp will just not produce as well. Then you must decide what "bells and whistles" you want on your amp, such as, channels (1 or 2), chorus, etc. Do the research, set up a value you want to spend for this set-up and try as many as you can prior to your purchase.

Re: Acoustic Electric

hi gweilmfloyd, bar chords and f and b chords are hard when you are starting out for most of us. did you consider putting in aftermarket place and remove pickup in the sound hole for your acoustic, then you will have an a/e. I strongly recommend buying any guitar you like and have your hands on as you can go to alot of places and buy new and used, but you will not really know what it is like untill you have already put out your hard earned dollers. most likely it will be to late to get your money back. There are many inexpensive guitars around, try your local shops etc, where you can sit down and play it and see if you like the insterment. Good luck!! and welcome to chordie!

Re: Acoustic Electric

Thanks for your opinions so far. I intend to keep the classical as I will no doubt go back to it as I get more profficient.
To be honest, I think just an acoustic would suffice as opposed to an A/E so I will carry on searching.

Re: Acoustic Electric

It may be that a competent luthier could do a "set up" on your present guitar and make that one considerably easier to play.

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?
