Jimmy Buffet's song refers to the many semi-sleazy beach bars you find along Alabama's Gulf Coast. Mostly folks around here revere the "Flora-Bama, a huge joint that straddles the Alabama - Florida state line.
The last hurricane flooded the place with a seven foot deep storm surge.
All they had to do is shovel the sand out, buy some more cheap chairs and tables and beer coolers and re-open. They rebuilt damaged walls and floors around the hours when locals and tourists pack in there to drink, dance and listen to really trashy beach music.
They only pay musicians $75 for a four hour gig but you can cuss all you want and the audience will buy you unlimited beers and management will usually spring for a hamburger.

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?

$75 for four hours sounds like slave labour, no matter how much you can cuss and how much beer the patrons buy you.

I used to frequent a bar in Lansing, Michigan called M.A.C.'s.  I used to attend another bar in Great Falls, Virginia called The Old Brogue.  There are other bars whose names I do not recall (not for the obvious reason - because of my infrequent attendance at them) in Fells Point neighborhood of Baltimore, MD.

When I first heard this song, it brought those bars to my mind.  The kind of a place where every stranger is just a friend you haven't met, and even enemies set aside their differences while they're there.  I'm glad there's places like that in the world.  I think sometimes that churches could learn a lot about how to treat people from these kinds of bars.

Sounds like a place I could enjoy playing in.  It's not so much the money, as the fun of it all.  And free beer to boot.  My kind of place.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

I use to go to a bar called" The Other Place", just down the road was a bar called" Another Place" but my all time favorite bar was in a little town in Chesterfield SC called "Headquaters" it was one of those places I don't talk about anymore, but lots of great memories. It had a cast of characters named Fast Eddie, Mindfreak, Fish, Wishbone, Breadmole, The Rev, Brockboy, Lurch and various other people to weird to mention.
