I have been hanging out with you guys for years now, on this forum. I feel comfortable with you and enjoy your music, comments and company. Been hoping for an opportunity to pick and grin and to hoist a beer or twelve with some of you.
This is gonna be cool.

Re: Chordilina Jam

OK - I've changed strings, wiped down and tuned up my 3 guitars (including the 12er - we all know what a pain that is). A couple of cases of beer in the fridge should be a good start. Got the sound system set up in garage (pic below). big_smile

I know toots has the music / words to that one, and probably the tuba accompaniment. I am very much looking forward to Saturday!

Wow tops looks like the garage has had an expansion since my last visit big_smile  Looking forward to it as well!  Not positive about the wife yet.... She may or may not be accompanying me.  Our plans have shifted slightly due to unforeseen news this week... I'll be heading that way for sure but it's 50/50 right now for the wife.

She said to tell you "State still sucks"... She just wanted to be sure you knew lol

Tell Mrs. Pix I will not take any trash talking over the internet - she'll have to dish it face to face. Seriously, I've been looking forward to meeting her, hope she can make it.

But if she can't .. Tell her "Cheaters never win".

Gabbysings - I'm thinking of a spring event at a campground in Northern Virginia.  That'd be almost two full states closer than NC for an Ohio boy.  Keep practicing.  We'll get it done.

Re: Chordilina Jam

I had a blast. Although Cam was missed, Pix, Mrs. Pix, Tubatooter and John (a friend of Toots) showed up for the jam. Toots showed up shortly after the completion of a fantastic football game between my alma mater (NC State) and Mrs. Pix team, UNC. It was a fantastic game, going down to the last minute. I can only hope that Mrs. Pix wasn't too put off by all my yelling and rubbing it in - she seemed like a good sport and I expect no less from her come basketball season. smile

Pix brought along a couple of identical Yairi's, one with a sound port and one without. It truly was amazing to compare the 2 and view his handi-work up close. The sound port makes a HUGE difference to the player's ear - a fantastic modification I would be happy to have on any acoustic. Pix - next time bring your tools - I'd like to have ports added to both my wood acoustics!

We pretty much went around a circle, each playing a tune from their songbook, but I believe TubaT stole the show, after all -  he has decades of experience in the music biz, where Pix and I are both relative beginners. It was wonderful to hear his stories and play along with his vast song book, including so many comedic type songs. What fun. After several beers, he brought out the Tuba and that was great also.

Here are a couple of photo's from the jam. Sorry for the quality  apparently the camera was seeing blurry (like I was) instead of using it's auto-focus. Toots also made a video of the 3 of us playing Jerry Mungo's "In The Summertime" that I am dreading to see / hear. I can only hope that the Tuba drowned out most of my vocals.

Re: Chordilina Jam

I would like to thank Topdown and Pix for your wonderful hospitality, music and good company.
Pix' workmanship in that Yairi sound hole was incredible.
John and I marveled at Mrs. Topdown's fine chili and her patience with us crazy musicians.
My grandson, Casey is working on the video and promised me it will be up soon. I will pop it to you as soon as it is up on my U-tube channel.
Thank you for permitting me to bring John who lost his wife (my sister) two days before. I stopped by his place on my way to topdowns and talked him into coming along. It was a great distraction for him. When we got back to his place, his sweet daughter was home from the Army on a long leave to spend with her dad. John asked me to thank Topdown for donating a fresh set of strings for his guitar.
That was my first chordie get-together. It was so fun I can't wait to meet more chordians.

Okay, guys! Here it is, live and unrehearsed. Topdown seated, playing rhythm and singing. Guitarpix standing and playing rhythm, yours truly on tuba and John Yoakum manning the camera.
Considering how many beers were consumed, it could have been a lot worse.

Re: Chordilina Jam

OH Man that hurts - I can't stand my voice. But I had a smile the whole time and that's what counts.

Toots didn't even mention the loss of his sister (and John's wife) while here. I am very pleased that they made the long trip and hopefully the few hours of fun took their minds away from their sorrow at least for a little while. Toots - You and John are welcome anytime. Hosting was easy - the sacrifice was made by those who drove so many hours to be here.

I'm also looking forward to more of these get together's. Hopefully the timing of Zurf's spring time jam will work out for me to join in. Thanks for the vid Toots - Next time, someone else is singing! smile

Re: Chordilina Jam

I had a ball guys smile It was great seeing Tops and his family again and meeting Toots and John! Got a chance to play Tops CA and man it was sweet! It had the smoothest neck I've ever held and had amazing bass! Loved Toots vintage Gibson as well! That things got some stories to tell and tone to die for! You could just feel the "Mojo"  It was awesome having toots on the horn playing along while me and tops took turns with songs. It's amazing how well it accompanies and how much it adds to the tune. I imagine the person playing it has a lot to do with that wink  Both Tops and toots did many songs (and did them well smile) that I wasn't familiar with and really enjoyed, so I picked up plenty of material to work on  Loved all the comedic songs big_smile  Toot's is a great performer and really draws your attention pulling you into the songs story! Looking forward to future gatherings and meeting more chordians in the future!

I think the vid turned out great smile Especially since it was the first time we'd ever played the song together wink It was the first time in my life playing the tune so I know I made a few boo boo's big_smile I think the vocals were fine and the "tuber" sounded great. I had a blast!

The wife also had a great time even with the game going against her... wink She really enjoyed meeting both you and your wife and had a great time! Thanks again for the fine food, great company, and awesome music big_smile

Re: Chordilina Jam

I am extremely jealous as I would have loved to have been there as you guys obviously had a blast. Mind you it would be a bit of a treck from Portugal to get there (I need to win that lottery first prize smile).

Do my eyes decieved me or is that a 12er hanging on the wall?

Great to see you having such a good time.

Yea Rog - That's an Alvarez 12 string I picked up from Pix a couple years ago. It's great to know a guy who goes through bunches of guitars!

Re: Chordilina Jam

Every time I've had the opportunity to jam with fellow chordians have been a blast and so many folks have expressed a "wish I could be there" in this thread - I'm thinking I should make this an annual event so to allow others to plan and make travel arrangements for the future. The fall is beautiful here in North Carolina, mild weather and the leaves in the mountains are typically peaking color around the 1st of November. The blue Ridge Parkway makes for a wonderful cruise this time of year and is only an hour or so drive from my home.

So, I'm thinking lets call this past jam the First Annual Chordilina Jam and plan on next year's jam happening the first weekend of November. So mark down the weekend of 11/5/11 and make your travel plans. I'd love to see this jam get bigger and better year after year!
