Re: Chordilina Jam

Sorry, Pix. I play through the progression one time and have the temerity to suggest changes.
I should have listened better and longer before piping up.

Re: Chordilina Jam

Pix - Another song just came to mind - Didn't you post that you were working on "The Girl From Ipanema" some time ago? That's a song I'd like to learn - what chords / tabs do you use for that one? Remember - I've only got 5 fingers on my fretting hand.

Re: Chordilina Jam

Heya Tops & Pix,

We do quite a bit of jammin between our guitar guild , the guitar store jams and the bluegrass festivals. A word of advice for a
great jam sessions. Seems simple songs really work well 3 & 4 chord songs make it fun for everyone. The better players can solo over them great and everyone else can strum along. It just seems to keep things flowing and a festive time.

The more difficult songs usually aren't done well by a group so keep it fun smile

Just wish I could make it , maybe another time or Come  West Young Men smile

Re: Chordilina Jam

Something fun we do at campfire sessions is where we take turns.  Everyone has to do a song.  Anyone is welcome to join any song they know, but each person in turn does a song.  One fellow who brings an acoustic bass always just bangs out some riff that sort of kind of works and then gives it some crazy title like "Possums in a Can" when it's his turn and then plays bass lines on other people's songs.  It's a fun way to do a few rounds.  Topdown and I did something like that, except we'd get all excited and do two or three in a row.

Re: Chordilina Jam

As fun as something like this sounds, I can't believe more of these gatherings don't take place at various times during the year.  It sounds sooooooo fun to even consider going to something like this.  I would truly love to be a part of such a gathering and enjoy the comraderie.  Dirty Ed has really talked up his times spent with fishing groups sitting around in the evening at a get-together similar to this.  My only real experience like this has been a couple of times when my neighbor gets his friends together for something similar.  Good music + good people = Great times!  Enjoy, it sounds exciting.

Re: Chordilina Jam

Deep Ellum Blues is a simple strummer I enjoy. I play it in E, with an E7, A7 and B or B7 tossed in. Again - I'm just a strummer but if TubaT or Pix anybody else can add some lead licks, it's a fun jam type tune.

Come on down Bass Viking, pick up Dirty Ed on the way!

Thanks, Tops my rhythm guitar is passable but my lead playing sounds like a car wreck.
I dug up the lyrics to "Stand By Me" and "Stay" (just a little bit longer) to have some simple four chord tunes to jam. I also have a medley of "Shake it up Baby" and "La Bamba" in three chords. Gonna pass a good time, cher.

Re: Chordilina Jam

Nice song Tops!  First time I've heard it....  I'm no lead player sad    I can pick up most tabs or learn riffs or solos by watching someone else play them but improvising is beyond me for now wink   I played through the intro run a few times and could help with that if needed, otherwise I'll be strumming along myself smile

You ever fooled around with "Ripple" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVdTQ3OPtGY  It's good and simple as well http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … /7289.html    I play the runs a little different than he does but keep the same basic feel...

Love Ripple - I tried it a long time ago, but at the time struggled with the Hammers / Pulls - I just printed it again and will work on it. Great tune!

Gotcha, Tops. Here's Ben E. King's "Stand By Me"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmGQ5SlazJA
He's doing it in A. I might wind up doing lower in D or C maybe.
"Stay a little bit longer"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nlf1I1sOqo
I'm passing on the high part.
"Shake it up Baby" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVlr4g5-r18
Three chords in A.
"La Bamba" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhFM81IcChk
I do it A,D and E.
No worries I have the spanish jotted down.

I learned Sunshine last year.  It is very easy and really fun to sing.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Would a couple of newbies from Ohio be ok?   New to playing but get along pretty well.   Singing use to be my forte.  Country is mostly my genre, if that fits.
