Topic: Electric guitar picking question

While trying to learn the elect guitar picking procedures I have a question that I think I know the answer to.  Question is:  The chords located over the staff above the tabs, are the chord figuring shape to be made while picking the tab below it. Did I make myself clear. Can anyone help  me..  Thanks
Gerald

Re: Electric guitar picking question

Hi Gerald,

Well I am going to assume that you have a sheet of music that includes piano notation as well as chord charts, and TAB.
Usually the TAB would be the lead notes played over the chord.... at least that's what I would think.  If you are looking at a TAB sheet that also has the chord name annotated, then you would be correct in that the chord indicates the name of the finger/chord shape which the TAB notation is played from.

That seems clear as mud to me, so hopefully someone else will chime in and help make sense of it.

Re: Electric guitar picking question

Thanks Doug,   I am not looking at standard music notation.  I using guitar tabs and lyrics from chordie, such as the songs like "Amanda" by Don Williams,  "Danny Boy" by misc. traditional.   I making the chord figuring and playing the tab it sure sounds better.  I think I am doing it right.  I noticed also by making the chord figuring qnd pickin the tab I only have to move only figure to follow the tab.  What u think. commit anyone.

Re: Electric guitar picking question

Sounds like you have a good handle on it!

It's never too late to jump over to electric (although I play mostly acoustic, but own both), crank up the gain and let her scream!
If the neighbors complain and the coppers show up, you can always plead "hard of hearing"..... it's only a caution that way. LOL
