Topic: Beginner needs simple songs

Any suggestions regarding VERY easy popular songs, preferably oldies, using no more than three or four chords? I am a beginner and would like some easy ones to start.

Re: Beginner needs simple songs

Welcome gert go to the public songbooks and click on beginners or simple songs and have fun. Also go to the acoustic format and click on the second left post in green and get a copo conversion chart. Enjoy!!!

Welcome Gerst
There are a lot of songs G, C, D or Em, C, G, D.  For example Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show.  Then there's Knockin on Heaven's Door which everyone will know with G, D, Am...G, D, C all the way thru.  There can't be an easier one that is fairly well liked and known.  Certainly a lot of songs are available on the songbooks too, so just look for ones that are in a lot of the songbooks.  Lastly, you'll see there's a lot of songs on the songbooks that are 3 chords and you should learn to use the capo and the "transpose" function on the right side of the songs you'll find to make them playable for you.   Again, welcome.

Welcome to Chordie Gerst!

This thread:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=11132  has some links to strumming patterns as well as a link to a chordie songbook filled with songs for beginners.  The very first song I learned was "Leaving on a Jet Plane" by John Denver.  chords: A, D, E

Good luck, and HAVE FUN!

Hi Gerst, my first was 'leaving on a jet plane' also. It has the advantage that you can leave one  finger on one string (but changing the fret position by sliding that particular finger up or down!)as you move between most of the chords changes; A, D & E. Use the same method with 'Catch the wind' by Donovan too. Am sure there's loads more! Have fun!
