Topic: An Audience of One
I have never written anything of note and I don't know if this qualifies as anything but drivel but I woke at 4 this morning with a sudden urge to scribble this down. I hope that tonight the music will come to me. If not any help would be appreciated. I feel it as a country style song - fairly slow and probably in a minor key.
An Audience of One
We sang a song together
About the way our love was strong
I never thought that song would end
But you have proved me wrong
We used to make sweet music
As we loved beneath the moon
Then over time it seems to me
You began to sing a different tune
You gave your love to someone new
You have learned a brand new song
And I just sat here singing to an audience of one.
I thought my life was over
The song we sang had died
I'd never sing another note
In truth I never tried
All my friends had left me
Or did I push them away
I didn't really feel like
I could go on another day
You gave your love to someone new
You have learned a brand new song
And I just sat here singing to an audience of one.
Over time the pain has eased
Though the scar will never heal
I have learned to use my music
To change the way I feel
Now I'm learning a new melody
Someone new has come along
I no longer have to sing my song
To an audience of one
You gave your love to someone new
You have learned a brand new song
But I no longer have to sing to an audience of one.
I'm happy I no longer sing to an audience of one.
