Topic: Question from Newbie-How to Create My Own Songsheets

I apologize if this is too basic a question, but I'm really puzzled.  What I WANT to do is type up the lyrics to all those songs I taught myself over the years, and then put the chords in above the words.  Sounds simple enough, and I thought there'd be TONS of software apps out there to do this.

The only one I found that looked like what I needed was "Tabs, Lyrics & Chords".  It looked particularly cool because you could instantly transpose a song into another key, just by designating the target key.  But I've sent 2 questions to the siteowner, with no reply; I don't think anything's been updated on his site for 4-5 years!

So is this what Chordie does?  From what I get from browsing the forum, Chordie is a way to FIND songsheets on the internet that OTHER people have prepared.  What I'm looking for is a way to prepare my own.

If this isn't what Chordie does, what apps to people use to accomplish this task?

Again, if it's too basic, I'm sorry, but I'm really at sea here, and could use some guidance.  Thanks much

Re: Question from Newbie-How to Create My Own Songsheets

Hi Cindy,

If you have a printer you can browse the songs here and print them off with the chords after transposing them. That is assuming the songs you want are here, hope this helps.

Thanks, Cam, but my question REALLY is how do I create my OWN songsheets?  What software to people use to create their own songsheets?

Hi Cindy - Welcome to chordie.

I believe this thread may help you accomplish what you want to do:

Re: Question from Newbie-How to Create My Own Songsheets

Hi Cindy
Chordie applies a display format to files hosted on other chord and tab sites provided those files are created in a specific way.  If you are looking to create sheets for your own original songs you can do it via the Songwriting section of the forum and there is a sticky there explaining how to format the song in any document creation program eg notepad so that Chordie can display them correctly.
There are apps around if you want to create songsheets on your own PC in a Chordie style format to print them out from your computer.  Try Googling Songbird Studio which comes with an add-in called Songbird Chords.  It is free and I think it will do what you want.
Hope that helps

Re: Question from Newbie-How to Create My Own Songsheets

I have used this one for years.  It works really well.  It comes in a windows version and costs, but well worth it.  You just copy the chopro files in Chordie and paste it to SongBook.  It does everything you want.

It also comes in Ipad format and they are working on an Android version.

Hi Cindy,

There was a similar question a year ago and I have just managed to find it. A suggested link to convert to ChoPro (ChordPro) was: http://webchord.sourceforge.net/

Sorry I misunderstood what you wanted, but welcome to Chordie anyway.

I was going to suggest this, but Pete beat me to it.  SongBook is pretty good!  I have the free windows version on my computer - yes they do ask for money, but you can use it for free.  Along with copying the chopro files, you can also create your own songs in it using chopro.  I've put my originals in there to print out all purty as well as edited some songs in it.  It's a fairly basic program but works well.

I also use songbook and love it. Outside of being easy to use, it is capable of putting the entire song on the screen so you don't have to scroll down the page to get the last part of the song.
