Django is one my heros! He is truely inspiring and one the best guitarists of all time. Nice link Russell. There's an old Woody Allen film titled 'Sweet and Lowdown' starring Sean Penn as Django. It's a really cool flick!
thanks for the info i will look and see if i can locate this movie, cant be to many Sean Penn flicks and I was always fascinated by Jangos ability to play with such artistry in spite of his handicap greatness is oft bestowed on less fortunate

Southpaw I was able to locate the movie and theres no doubt its intended to be a story about Django but the character Sean Penn plays is Emmet Ray I am watching it later tonignt so I will find out why Emmet Ray instead of Django im looking forward to it
I cued up the movie and i was expecting to see a sort of bio of Django but the character Emmet ray played by Sean Penn is a mystery, some say he existed, some not, I found a myspace link and it seems Emmet has his own profile page! even the fact that he will have been deceased for over 50 yrs if he did exist at all.The movie "Sweet and Low" is good but I was hoping it would be a movie on Reinhardt,oh well it go's back to the library tommorow

Yeah he was a great... and there's really not a whole lot of info on him at all . I did a piece on him a little while ago (over at guitar heroes:
http://www.myspace.com/guitarheroes14) and it was hard finding stuff about him...
Its a shame he really was amazing considering the odds he played against- the handicap and he never got the chance for an education in music.
Had a nice visit and checked out some of the music nice site and some good articals

Sorry about the misinformation Russell. Sean Penn was playing a character who idolized Django and the movie was fictional. Still though it a great tribute to the greatness that is, Django Reinhardt...........
Thats cool it still was a darn good flick and I liked the part where he's laying on the bed listining to Django's record and crying,I think the music on the record was an actual LP of Django playing and at the time they didn't have amplified guitars so people had to stay quiet when they played in a club or the talking would drown out the band

I liked the heck outta this movie too(Sweet and Lowdown). Another one of my favorite guitar movies is 'Crossroads' with Ry Cooder and Steve Vai proving most of the music in this great flick. I really dig when Ralph Machio meets Steve Vai for a 'cutting heads' duel. This is a riff exchange to see who the better player is. I get chills everytime I watch this scene.........
I seen this movie several years back its a good movie and I liked the tele Machio was playing I used to own one,one odd thing Ry Cooder is included in my fingerpicking style music course as is Lightning Hopkins and a host of other great players, I remember the movie was based on Robert Johnson life after he supposedly "sold his soul to the devil" (cant sell what ain't yours to sell) and went from a bad guitarist to a legend
