Topic: ABOUT AN OLD GIBSON

I have "modified " a Gibson LP Custom original from 1968, with a serial number pointing to the end of 1967. The modification was done in one of the biggest guitar stores, where they changed the humbuckers by a pair of P-94's (= P-90) to fit in the cavity.
REASON: I have a 1978 Gibson LP custom, and I wanted to going back in time when the custom had at first 2 single (most in black) P-90's.

PROBLEM: I have the originals, a PAF Humbucker AND a DIMARZIO early seventies. I was told that many guitar players changed 1 or 2 originals in DIMARZIO'S.
1) Why did they installed DIMARZIO'S?
2) You have to look very good to see DIMARZIO?
3) What about the market value and
4) MOST IMPORTANT Where can you find an original PAF?

Original PAF's are rare and expensive.
Have you considered a vintage 'patent sticker' Gibson humbucker? They were probably the pickups that guitar shipped with - PAF's were more common on early 60's instrument. They can be had for a fraction of the cost.

If you are not restoring the instrument for investment purposes, but to play, try a set of Gibson '57 Classics, Burstbuckers or a set of Seymour Duncan Seth Lover humbuckers (!) or Antiquity HB's. The Dimarzio is far below the pedigree of that guitar.

A luthier offered to replace my original single wound Gibson pickups with Humbuckers for my 1960 Gibson 330. I'm glad I couldn't afford to make the change.
I later bought a 1975 Gibson 335 with double wound Humbuckers and hated the trebly Humbucker sound.
My old 330 has such a mellow sound. It's been my main axe since 1968.

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
