Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Ark I wish I could have made a video of the mix down but I didn't want to distract the engineer from this crucial point of time and the entire system is run from a ordinary keyboard its like the bridge of a starship and this guy has got to be one of the fastest typist in the world he was flying on that keyboard, they never had courses like that when I went to school either the computer had not yet been invented lol I decided to record an entire cd there, they also have a graphic design department with manufacturing, distrubution and promotion which includes airplay so its the end of the yellow brick road for me and I cant wait to get back there. thanks for your comments smile

Very interesting video.
Thanks for taking the time....
I can see why the guy would need to go to college to run a system like that now if they only had courses like that when I was a School.  smile

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Kenny I have charted out the song and practice it each day, I go over the lead guitar solo and rhythm tracks and I am useing a keyboard player who is very talented and I gave him a copy of the song and wrote a chart for him to practice to and we will get together before the session and run over the song a few times so we are comfortable with it and not waste valuable studio time rehearsing it we will have it down before recording it in order to cut down the retakes I think we can do it in one take, the song is "Another Day" and if all go's well I will also record "Breezzin" to smile

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

The time for the next session is fast approaching the session is set for this Thursday the 16Th at 7pm and I have been purposely avoiding working out a lead solo note for note because I believe that a general idea is better as it leaves more room for spontaneity and having a set arrangement of notes in a solo would be counter productive,I know the chord changes and my solo will follow them but I will let the inner spirit, the creative force that God has blessed me with take over and guide my hands on the fretboard. Its easy to talk about how well you play but when you record its like words spoken, once they leave your lips you are judged by others and there is no rewind or second chance to make a first impression but im confident the notes I record will be up to my standards and the best I can do, and in the end thats all anyone can hope for.

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Oh Russell you lucky dog you....

We will keep our fingers and toes crossed for you on Thursday that old man "Murphy" stays away from the studio.  But now that guy who narrates all the movie trailers has passed away, (The Voice) there is room in the world for another "one take wonder"....  could be you!

Hope you have a good time and look forward as usual to your reflections on the whole process.

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Hi Russ,

'Break a Leg' on Thursday and I will invite 'Murphy' round to mine for the day. He has been dogging me lately anyway so having another day with him won't make much difference.

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Thanks Doug I have a feeling everything will come out fine and I will post a sign of the door of the studio "no Murphy's allowed" and I will film this session and upload the results and let you know how it all turned out smile

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Roger I think Mr.Murphy has invaded my vista puter the fan still makes a little groan when I fire it up,I took it apart and cleaned all the fans and its running a lot quieter but I may need to replace the fan unit so I wrote down the part number and I'm searching for a replacement and I hope Murphy postpones his unwelcome visit to your residence and my session smile

I'm curious here Russ is there only to be one stab at recording and no chance for a retake?
or am i missing the point so to speak and the general aim is a one off warts and all solo.
Anyway good luck with your session...

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Ark what I was refering to was the finished recording because once its mastered there is no going back to a "do over" as far as retakes if there needed yes I can do them but I really dont think it will be necessary I think one take will be all I need unless some physical malady strikes my fingers (not to likely) and thanks for your best wishes Russ smile

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

A lot was accomplished in the studio today I re-did the vocals and a lead solo track I have to return on the 25th to to add another lead track and the drummer will have his drum set already setup and mic'ed because he is doing another session earlier in the afternoon I am already looking forward to the next song but even after this one is finished it will still have to be mastered and I received some good news, the owner intends to publish all my songs so each song is important and I can understand how important it is getting each song flawless ,more on this project later smile

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

I uploaded two videos of the recording session one is "in the control room" this is a short video of all the equipment involved in my recording with my song playing in the background the second video is "in the studio" it is the actual real time recording of the guitar solo I was going to edit this because I had to scratch my nose but changed my mind and left it in so what the heck we all gotta scratch what itches once in a while,If you wish you may click the link at the bottom and download these videos I will be videotaping another installment of "Chordie Forum News" later and upload it to mediafire also smile

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Thanks Ark but that was only a practice run,the final solo is on my copy of the wav cd they burrned for me,we were just checking audio levels on that video the final cut is better but I am returnning on the 25th to cut another and compair the two to see which is better and the drummer will lay the rhythm track and there will be a lady singing some backup parts and then comes the mastering and it starts all over with the next song (hint) its the song you arranged for the challange, I am sticking with the original chord structure and by the end of next week I should have some workable lyrics thanks again for your kind comment russ smile

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Hi Russell,

Watched your videos earlier and finally got back so to comment....  as usual nice job on the solo.
But what is this about having more to do on that same piece?  Keep going like this and it will be cheaper to fly all your Chordie friends out there to orchestrate and do it all in one cut!

Seriously though, it all seems to be coming together for you, and we are all envious that you have the opportunity to do what you love to.  Keep on keeping on and we will look forward to your next excursion.

Re: SPECIAL TREAT!

Hey Doug how ya doing? did you get all your belongings over to your new crib yet? I'll bet you and the misses cant wait to get settled so things can get back to normal,to answer your question there is very little left for me to do on the song nothing I cant finish in one hour, the drummer already has a copy and he's a studio musician so he shouldn't have any problems with it.Recording in a studio is a lot differen't then at home the slightest error is noticed and must be redone and punching in saves time and money for me,quite frankly I cant wait to get started on the next song when you get your place set we can google chat so till later thanks for the comment russell smile

Hi Russ,

It is a pleasure to watch your fingers flow over the fretboard so effortlessly, but what has happened to the beautiful lady backing singer?? She too would be a pleasure to watch wink.
