Is this a hard chord for anyone else to play?

I have a hard time getting my thumb to hold down the low E string ... any suggestions to make it easier? (besides practice) 
I think having your palm on the back of the neck helps. Of course, that's an awful hand position and not recommended. I knew someday my crappy technique would pay off
I know if I try to press my palm against the back of the neck my thumb extends to far out and I can't "crimp" the low E ... if I move to far out my thumb is barely hanging onto the string
I like this chord and use it sometimes when moving from D to G I dont have any problems with making this chord

Yes, get your thumb on the back of the neck where it belongs and play the F# note(2nd fret) on the low e string with your pointer finger. Also, use that pointer finger to lightly touch but not fully press down on the A string(mute that string) Thus the(my) proper way to play a D/F# is like this;
E A D G B E
2 X 0 2 3 2
or
e/---2(ring finger)
B/---3(pinky finger)
G/---2(middle finger)
D/---0
A/---X(mute with pointer finger)
E/---2 (pointer finger)

Anybody know a site that gives strum patterns with the Tabs?
Yes...use your first finger for the F# and other three fingers to form the rest of the chord...a little awkward at first but it'll come pretty fast...

Here is how I play the D chord with the F# bass note - it's pretty easy:
e - 2nd fret, middle finger (F#)
B - 3rd fret, ring finger (D)
G - 2nd fret, pointer (A)
D - 4th fret, pinky (this is probably the other F# you're looking for)
A - open (A)
E - X
